A Persuasive Speech on an NGO “Project Concern International”

“A clean hometown where everyone has equal opportunities to grow both financially and mentally. No one is left hungry and the security of every citizen is guaranteed”. Feels like a dream? Yes, it does to a part of a population in some areas of the world. A very high percentage of people are suffering from hunger, homelessness, fatal disease, and basic education and health necessities. In spite of these facts and figures, there are enormous Non-profit Organizations (NGOs) that work day and night just so they could play their parts in enhancing the declining situation of Earth’s beings and its atmosphere (Non-Governmental Organizations | Types | Importance of NGO’s, n.d.). Their impact is not only on the Earth but also on individuals and local communities as well. Providing the underserved population with their basic rights of health, education, and home is their primary mission. NGOs feel obliged to recruit different volunteers because it is the duty of every human being to care for another while saving the planet at the same time.

One of such reputed organizations in San Diego County is “Project Concern International” (PCI). The concept of this NGO was laid down by a young doctor in 1961 who saved two children from a tragic incident. Today, this organization is operating worldwide including countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, including the United States of America. Their message has been sent globally as they have merged with other well-known NGOs such as Global Communities and expanded their mission’s horizon extensively (PCI, n.d.-a).

We are headed towards a tough time. Ironically, after centuries are we realizing our deficiencies today and working hard by creating non-profit organizations to better the situation. According to some of the facts and figures, about 8.9% of the world’s population is without any food (World Hunger: Key Facts and Statistics 2020 | Action Against Hunger, n.d.), and around 130 million girls are unable to acquire basic education (Women ED Facts and Figure | United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, n.d.) and 0.74 kg of waste is generated on average by a single person on planet Earth (Trends in Solid Waste Management, n.d.). NGOs like PCI work hard in providing local communities with such opportunities so that they can escalate these shortcomings. With the integration of empathy, dedication, and a sense of deep understanding and cerebral peculiarity, PCI has affected the lives of about 21 million people around the globe. Its mission is to improve the conditions of health, hunger and ending hardships all across the globe (PCI, n.d.-b).

Project Concern International provides various ways in depleting hunger, bad health, and hardships in underdeveloped areas. They have developed an initiative called Parivartan which translates in English as “transformation”. This concept aims at strengthening and educating community citizens about good health especially pregnant women as Chunchun in India. It has also an emergency food delivery network called ACCION that has helped a severely malnourished child named Carlitos who belonged to an extremely poor family and many others. Moreover, they have developed satellite-powered vegetation maps that help pastoralists in Africa to identify greener areas to pastor their animals, therefore, easing their hardships.

There are millions of underprivileged people all across the globe who suffer extreme hunger, scarce medical health care, and severe hardships in their lives. NGOs like PCI work day and night to ameliorate their deteriorating condition. However, the backbone of an NGO is enthusiastic and steadfast volunteers. Everyone needs to realize their roles as a responsible community members and should help and support such highly efficient NGOs to improve the condition of society. People can simply get in touch with them and act as their spokesperson in their own region and help them in their cause of improving the quality of health, hunger, and hardship as they did for Chunnchun, Carlitos, and pastors in Africa.
