Adultery is known as one of the most discussed concepts when it comes to the paradigm of the psychical relationship between individuals. Feature of adultery is defined as the sexual intercourse between a married man and someone who cannot be characterized as his legal wife. This particular definition also applies in the case of a woman who builds a sexual relationship with someone else other than her legitimate husband. The paradigm of adultery is effectively discussed by Bonnie Steinbock in her article, “What is wrong with adultery.” She effectively discusses the different factors associated with the concept of adultery. She proposes the specific arguments related to adultery. Here the focus is to critically evaluate Steinbock’s argument related to adultery by considering the features of truth or falsity of the evidence and the strength or validity of the logic.
It is notable to mention that Bonnie Steinbock provides an effective form of information based on research to indicate the growing feature of adultery in society. The author defines the prospect of adultery as a growing trend in the case of women. According to Steinbock, changing paradigms of sex and sexuality can be the possible reason for adultery (Steinbock, 137). She also proposes the idea that a logical approach is necessary to apprehend the idea of adultery. It seems a valid point in the case of the author to evaluate the possible features which can play their role in the increasing rate of adultery.
Another crucial feature which is indicated by Steinbock in her article is that mostly the logical claim associated with the facet of adultery is entirely based on the opinions of people against the practice of adultery. It is also notable to mention that it is the reality that every individual has their own particular opinions about the relationship which can be characterized as the viewpoint about marriage, romantic love, etc.
There is the argument that sexual relationship is a private matter for people, so it seems inappropriate to formulate any legal consideration to ban the feature of adultery. This practical prospect of the legal consideration is addressed by the author of the article as the paradigm shift from one feature to another. It effectively apprehends the idea to consider the term adultery as a private matter of the people instead of criminal activity. This particular approach of considering adultery as a private matter somewhat leads it to the invalid feature which has not adequate evidence to apprehend the basic concept.
There is a much crucial consideration that is avoided by Steinbock in her article. Stenbock refuses the valid argument referring to the practical implications of the adultery that prevails in society. For example, a feature of adultery undoubtedly enhances the chances of unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and different sorts of diseases due to the improper form of sexual intercourse with a person other than a spouse. Steinbock does not effectively consider the particular aspect of the disease in the case of adultery in her article. This particular aspect makes the argument of the author bit invalid as it requires more authentic foundations to address the facet of adultery. To conclude this, it is crucial to consider the ethical grounds to address the prevailing issue of adultery. Adultery can be characterized as a sin as it comes up with a violation of moral foundations (Scales et al., 166). It is somewhat tragic that people deceive their partners by engaging themselves in adultery. Undoubtedly, the aspect of adultery involves the feature of breaking a promise or commitment which negatively impacts the ethical foundations of any society.
