Introduction
War stories have always fascinated the general audience as well as the literary experts. Despite the fact that there is not a lot of emotional conviction involved in actual warfare, the fact of the matter is that the way war affects the lives of the people and the related tragedies have always created stories that have intrigued the general audience. In this paper, it will be seen whether the Vietnam War novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers and the letter by Commander Edward W. Jewel are war stories.

If one talks about the story of the Vietnam War, the novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers would not be qualified as a war story. It is due to the fact that it comes across as more of a coming-of-age story rather than a story that is actually based on warfare. It is a story about people who are coming of age due to the trials and tribulations that they are facing due to the war rather than providing insight into the way war is fought. For instance, “Lord, let us feel pity for Lieutenant Carroll, and sorrow for ourselves, and all the angel warriors that fall. Let us fear death, but let it not live within us” (128). On the other hand, Letter by Commander Edward W. Jewel is a story that is based on the actual war and provides a good insight into the way actual warfare is carried out.
Conclusion
In hindsight, it can be said that the warfare stories should be the one that should be based on the fights and the strategies that are formulated during the course of the war rather than talking about the incidents that are related to the war or how people are affected during the course of the war.
