Kaiser Permanente
In terms of health care, I have experience with Kaiser Permanente. The American healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente was established in 1945 and called Northern California home. Integrative managed care is the goal of this partnership. The Kaiser Permanente system includes the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. (KFHP) and its regional operational entities, the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, and the regional Permanente Medical Groups.
Part one: IHI Triple Aim Goals
The Triple Aim Initiative was first presented in 2007 by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). A better patient experience, healthier populations, and lower healthcare expenditures are all goals of this initiative. The Triple Aim focuses on bettering patient care, population health, and healthcare spending per person. The IHI had three main goals, as discussed below.
Its main goal was primarily to improve the population’s health which focused on improving people’s health. Improving population health requires collaboration with the public health division to learn about local conditions, socioeconomic factors, and healthcare requirements. It lays the groundwork for creating a strategic plan using external analyses and collected data (Bodenheimer & Sinsky 2014). The demands of a community can be seen in external elements, which should be considered during the planning process. The healthcare provider will be better able to tailor its services to the local population once it gets access to this vital data. Hospitals created specialized units to treat and evaluate individuals with Covid-19 as reported instances grew. Some hospitals might have missed the chance to help the neediest members of the community if external considerations were not considered.
The second objective is to increase the level of patient satisfaction. Hospitals provide top-notch care. Hence, hospitals should provide patient satisfaction. Healthcare institutions must follow standards and give staff the best resources to make patients and workers happy. If healthcare facilities heeded Johnson’s (2019) suggestion, they would often ask patients how they felt about their visits and how satisfied they were. When receiving medical attention, patients have the right to have their voices heard. They must be tested frequently to detect and fix issues with anonymous services. The hospital can investigate the issue of excessive wait times to see a doctor or nurse and devise a strategy to reduce them without compromising service quality. The requirements of the patient must always come first when providing medical care.
The third goal of The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is to reduce healthcare costs, thus making it affordable to all patients. As a result of demographic changes, the cost of health services is rising, thus forcing both patients and healthcare providers to prioritize reducing costs. Healthcare providers must balance meeting community needs with reducing costs and managing budgets. Among these necessities is access to low-cost medical care and health screenings for monitoring purposes (Johnson,2019). As a result, taking precautions to reduce wasteful spending is crucial. It is important to include external issues while analyzing the healthcare cost-cutting strategy to establish which regions can and must reduce costs. Hence this is necessary for locating cost savings. Although time-consuming and challenging, this procedure must be completed.
Part Two: Evaluation of Application of IHI Triple Aim Goals Application in Your Organization
Kaiser Permanente, a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, has implemented the Triple Aim. The efforts put into place have resulted in good quality healthcare services and affordable healthcare services. Kaiser Permanente’s comprehensive medical coverage has given patients several benefits. The group has also started several projects to improve medical access and preventative health. Kaiser Permanente has established many new regulations and processes to curb the stratospheric rise in medical costs and bring them back down. You might choose a cheaper drug or join a cost-sharing program. These are examples.
Data like patient satisfaction surveys, health outcomes, and cost savings can be used to evaluate Kaiser Permanente’s progress toward its Triple Aim program goals. You can learn about an organization’s efforts to enhance the quality of care it provides to patients by conducting patient satisfaction surveys. Population health outcomes data can be used to evaluate the success of health promotion initiatives. By comparing treatment and service costs before and after the implementation of the Triple Aim aims, an estimate of the amount of money saved can be derived.
Part three: IHI’s Quadruple Aim
The Quadruple Aim is an IHI top priority. This shift is intended to improve working conditions for healthcare professionals. The Quadruple Aim states that bettering the working circumstances of healthcare professionals will lead to better patient care, cost savings, and overall community health (Bachynsky,2020). IHI plans to accomplish these objectives by enhancing healthcare workers’ access to better working conditions, jobs, resources, training, and support. IHI also promotes teamwork and open communication among healthcare professionals. The goal is to reduce burnout among medical professionals, leading to better patient care, community health, and lower healthcare costs.
Companies in the healthcare industry must adhere to the Quadruple Aim. The conditions of healthcare providers are one target of the Triple Aim. Better health and attitude mean better results for patients. The healthcare industry might benefit from a more efficient and cost-effective workplace. Researchers found that when healthcare workers are happy, their patients are too. The Quadruple Aim is a set of objectives for improving individual and population health that all healthcare providers should adopt.
U.S. healthcare has been elevated thanks to IHI’s Triple Aim. Patient outcomes, population health, and healthcare spending have all increased because of Kaiser Permanente. The IHI Quadruple Aim toggle is functional. To boost patient care and general health, healthcare facilities should implement these changes.
