Introduction
Watching movies to relax the mind and change the mood has become a very effective way of getting rid of mental depression. Watching movies in theaters is even more fun and a learning experience. Modern technological advances have provided innumerable devices to viewers and movie lovers so they can watch movies wherever and whenever they want. Portable devices like tablets and mobiles with amazingly high resolutions and picture quality (Zhao, 2006), along with the internet, make the job far easier and more attractive for movie lovers.
But despite all the advances and facilities of the modern age, surprisingly, the majority of general folks still prefer to get together and go to theaters to watch movies.
Discussion
The “Film or Movie” industry is one of the biggest entertainment and revenue-generating industries in the world. A country like India has had the highest number of film productions per year in the last several years through its film industry called “Bollywood.” The United States movie industry, “Hollywood,” is ranked second in the quantity of released movies, but first and far better than all other countries’ movie industries regarding its filmmaking, technology, budgets, and revenues.
People discuss the advantages of watching movies in theaters, which, according to them, are that “one doesn’t have to wait for the movie to generally release on DVDs, and other social networks,” as it is the trend and an official rule set by the film industry regulatory authorities, according to which the newly released movies would only be displayed primarily on big screens of cinemas, and then after a short period of time, they would be on open display.
Well, it could be an advantage for those who cannot wait and a way of business for movie makers and the regulatory body, but to me, the only good reason to go to the theater to watch a new movie has always been the charm of facing the big screen. The real art of modern-day technological advances can be enjoyed many times more on the big screen than on some small-screen device.
One generally doesn’t watch a movie to learn something from it, but usually, movies are seen to reflect real life and indulge viewers in the life of idealism portrayed in classy movies. Good movies are sometimes so influential that their visuals can take one to the world of imagination (Epstein, 1999). However, this sense of aesthetics cannot be created on low-resolution, mini-screen home appliances since they do not have such powerful and catchy effects, and the background cannot have such effects on the eyes.
Along with all the catchy effects of the larger cinema screen with louder but balanced sound, one of the main attractions, or advantages, I would rather say, is the uninterrupted thrill of the storyline, which is ensured while watching a movie in a cinema. Ads, censors, and other disturbances break the flow of the story, and people normally discontinue watching the other part of the movie, which is to come after the break.
The primary advantage of having new movies in the cinema is that a variety of new movies are on display. Even in a few cinemas, where there are around ten to twelve screens together to display movies, the option of choosing a movie is much higher, which obviously is fun of huge proportions for movie lovers. Another big perk is the discounted snacks and drinks included in the ticket charges.
The roaring environment of enthusiasts cheering on extraordinary fighting scenes, kids running upside down and throwing snacks all the way, and sometimes overwhelming comments by the youngsters makes the environment lively and memorable, which one takes back out of the cinema.
Personal Experience
I remember I watched a movie back in 2009 in a cinema with a group of friends. The movie was one of the best-ever Hollywood war productions, named “Black Hawk Down.” I watched that particular movie several times later in my life, maybe only because of the impact I took back from the cinema. The movie “Black Hawk Down” was filmed in Somalia and was based on the story of its civil war back in 1996, where many American marines were killed by the warring Somali militias.
Now, this movie was one of the best war movies, with 3 hours of constant action in it. Huge speakers in the cinema hall added a lot more to its firing sounds (Soleymani, 2008).
The crashing black hawk, the “Chopper,” on the large screen was an awesome sight to watch.
Since it was a war movie, and the story and script were quite decent, the atmosphere inside the cinema hall was not that enthusiastic and lively in a naughty sense, yet everyone present in the hall was so involved in the movie that no state-of-the-art scene was left unappreciated.
The movie was a tale about an operation by the U.S. Marines in which many army personnel gave their lives for the honor of the nation and for humanitarian causes. At the end of the movie, the National Anthem was played, which was an amazing experience for everyone present in the hall since it stirred patriotic emotion all around.
Conclusion
It has been said quite fairly that the “Entertainment of film watching is basically meant for the cinemas only,” which I too really believe, especially after having fantastic experiences with movies like Black Hawk Down and a few others.
