Vaccination Rights And Individual Liberties

Pro Section

The point I have chosen from the pro section of the web article “Should States be Allowed to Mandate Vaccines for School Attendance?” is imposing vaccination requirements can lead to significant benefits by reducing the financial burden and time for the families and the broader community (School Vaccine Mandates – Pros & Cons – ProCon.Org). I chose this point (Pro 3) because it expresses a critical advantage of vaccine mandates, which is often an important argument in favour of such policies related to vaccines. The point resonates with me as it aligns with my personal opinion that in order to keep individuals and children safe, they need to be fully immunized. This not only protects families but also prevents the spread of deadly diseases to the broader community, including friends, colleagues, the neighbourhood, and the overall society. This point is compelling because it highlights the practical health outcomes, such as economic savings and convenience, that are beyond physical health, considering the pivotal effects on time management and the economic stability of society.

Con Section

The point chosen from the con section is that an individual’s health-related decisions should remain the responsibility of the individual without governmental control (School Vaccine Mandates – Pros & Cons – ProCon.Org). I chose this point, “Con 3”, from the con section of the web article because it argues a fundamental debate about the balance between societal welfare and personal freedom. This point is compelling because it provides the ethical basis for the involvement of government and related authorities in healthcare delivery. This point against the use of vaccines with governmental involvement resonates with those who distrust governmental or healthcare agencies’ involvement in the private matters of an individual and those who prioritize personal autonomy and liberty in public health. However, this may conflict with the perspective of those who believe that government should play its role in public health. The point is significant because it is the core issue in mandatory discussions about healthcare legislation.

Discussion

As for opinions and discussions on these topics, I believe that individual decisions should be left to the individual without governmental oversight, interference, or control, whether it is about a child, a parent, or an adult. Though vaccination requirements by the government reduce the time and the financial burden for the community, the choice should be left to the individual without external imposition. In my view, personal autonomy is important for every individual, and every person has the right to make decisions about their body and physical health without anyone’s interference. However, I also believe that government intervention is necessary in some life-threatening conditions, especially in children, to save their lives and to ensure overall public health and safety.
