Introduction
Nursing is considered as one of the Noble professions that strive to provide comfort and relief to patients in dire need of help. My Personal Philosophy of Nursing is that all Nurses have a huge responsibility to the general public to deliver innocuous, all-inclusive, patient-centered care. My personal belief is that patients are not just some kind of a medical condition or specific room numbers instead they are human beings that need and deserve proper personalized attention. All Nurses should practice clinical judgment in order to fulfill the requirements of a needy patient. All Nurses should enable patients by encouraging them to become partners with them in their own care and health. Nurses should preserve patient privacy except when they have a responsibility to report as authorized by law. Nurses must provide information to patients and their families on treatments and symptoms of various diseases, and healthy behaviors in order to improve their outcomes. All Nurses should also struggle to model positive healthy behaviors in their own lives in the belief that we will deliver better care to others if we care for ourselves first.
Discussion
Nurses have an obligation to seek self-enhancement through perpetual learning and should actively participate in improving their knowledge and skill level. If we follow this routine we will further enhance our professional and technical skills as well. We will remain connected to the modern world and the advanced techniques they used for Nursing. My visualization as a nurse is that I will continuously learn, not only from medical journals and textbooks but from collaborations and exchanges with other team members of the hospital. I would personally try to connect with the families of the patients and will try to teach them about the symptoms of the disease and how they can prevent it. I want to acquire knowledge each and every day, and I would want to apply my knowledge to practical aspects of Nursing and healthcare. It’s the only way I can further enhance my professional and technical skills as a nurse.
My essential standards and principles as an individual are learning through mistakes, compassion towards patients, the safety of patients, righteousness, perseverance, and achieving success in my goals. I employ these standards and principles to make individual decisions and live my life to the fullest. I have a firm belief that the major fundamental of nursing is integrity, compassion, and professional and technical knowledge (Brandi, Dahlin. 2018). The emphasis of nurses should always be on the patient’s soothing, requirements, safety, and empowerment. I believe that my individual philosophies are consistent due to the fact that my individual principles overlap the dynamic forces behind the heart of nursing. The potentials that make a good nurse cannot be turned off at the conclusion of a shift, but are part of me as an individual, and I carry them with me always.
Without compassion and caring the nurse cannot associate with the patient. If the nurse cannot associate with the patient, trust will not be developed between them (Cecelia, Baxter. 2011). Without trust in this patient/nurse relationship, therapeutic nursing will not take place. So far all successful nursing procedures, caring, and compassion are situated at the center of it. This is not to downplay the value of science. A competent nurse must be able to use the technical resources available. The nurse should have knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, pathology, and current guidelines for pharmacological therapy (Cecelia, Baxter. 2011).. This is an ever-changing body of knowledge. Science also encompasses the skill required to perform technical tasks. Benner’s Novice to Expert model explains the science behind skill acquisition. As nurses, we are all on a continuum to achieve “ expert” in each of the seven domains of competencies.
As a Nurse I should always remember that I am human and I am not perfect, I will do mistakes every once in a while. It shouldn’t demotivate me rather it should motivate me to improve myself and learn from my mistakes so that I can take care of the patient in a much better way (Brandi, Dahlin. 2018). If something does not go according to the plan as expected, I will examine the situation calmly and will try my best to focus on how to solve the problem. If I am unable to do so, I will not hesitate to ask for guidance and help from my senior team members. I will always try my best to learn from my mistakes and reflect on my own actions and I will continue to work with supreme confidence that I am an improved nurse than the day before, and I will be an even better nurse tomorrow. Every day, The field of Nursing brings new experiences and opportunities for me, leaving almost no room for boredom. Nursing provides a positive outlook on life and the capability to give hope to patients. (Brandi, Dahlin. 2018).
My philosophy of nursing is comprised of four major things: society, environment, the recipient of nursing care, and the communication between society, person, and the environment. Society is basically an assembly of people with mutual interests (Cecelia, Baxter. 2011). Societies for nursing could be a society where the nurses are held together by the mutual interest of giving comfort and care to the patients for example the hospital ward. The environment is the platform for society to live in. environment can also be labeled as an area in which a person lives (Cecelia, Baxter. 2011). The environment also encompasses the person’s awareness, feelings, and opinions about all aspects of life. The recipient of nursing care is not limited to just the patient but the family of patients and other associates of the health care team are all considered to be beneficiaries of the care being given by the nurse (Cecelia, Baxter. 2011). The mutual interaction between all these four aspects is also a part of my philosophy of nursing.
In my view, “Nursing” can be defined as a Nobel profession providing care for the infirm and sick irrespective of their cast, age, gender, social stature, and race. A person who cannot take care of himself and is in the condition of pain and sickness deserves an attention of a Nurse. Nursing as a Nobel profession provides guidelines to nurses that they should provide everything necessary to comfort the patient and help him ease through his pain. In my view, Health can be defined as a state of being free from any kind of sickness or physical disorder. Good health is a gift, that not everyone has but everyone is striving to achieve it. As a Nurse, our topmost priority should be to play our utmost part in helping a patient to achiee this expensive gift. To achieve a state of complete health, one has to have a suitable environment free of pollution and other hazards.
I have a particular style of communicating, I tend to communicate with clarity and like to know the specific reason for what’s happening around me. I tend to think of myself as an analytical communicator, I tend to like actual numbers, hard statistics, and data. I like clear, precise language and I have a huge disinclination toward ambiguous language. For example, when someone in my hospital tells me that ‘medicine has been given to a patient’ I would quickly ask that person about the name and quantity of medicine. I would likely want to know about every detail like the name of medicine, the quantity of medicine and that is my job as a Nurse. This kind of communication style has slight endurance for lots of sensitive arguments during communication (Mark, Murphy. 2015).
The biggest advantage of using an Analytical communication style is that it allows me to look at all the potential issues rationally and impassively(Mark, Murphy. 2015). Being a Nurse, I want my communication to be fairly unemotional. Sometimes as a nurse, you have to convey the tough options and results to the patients and their families. You have to tell them with complete honesty and straightforwardness about the condition of the patient. Being unemotional helps me do my job as a nurse in a much better way.
The disadvantage of having an Analytical communication style for me is that I may strike some people as being emotionless or unsympathetic (Mark, Murphy. 2015). For example, when interacting with families of patients I have to tell them with complete honesty about the critical nature of a patient. I cannot lie to them, just to make them happy or just to convince them to feel like their relative’s health is fine. I have to be straightforward even if I am judged as an emotionless person.
If I were a part of an interdisciplinary team, I would want to know about every analytical detail in a precise manner. so I can help make a judgment in a fair way by looking at all the numbers and every other minute detail. I would tend to be right in the face of a culprit telling them about his wrongdoings in a straightforward way. But if the numbers or facts suggest otherwise, I would go the extra mile to help him get his justice. I would try my level best to build flexibility around my communication style which will eventually allow me to interact with people in a much better way.
Conclusions
Nurses should always let their actions speak that “Nursing is a noble profession”. As Nurses, We should support our professional and personal moral principles all the time. Whenever we find the state of the encounter between our professional principles and the principles of the patient, we must always strive hard to try to find a counselor to help us guide us through our encounter and find a clarification that fulfills the requirements without conceding on our personal beliefs. As nurses, it is our obligation to take full responsibility and liability for our own activities. We should always cooperate with each other and we should remember that fellow nurses can be great resources. If all the Nurses cooperate with each other, it would create a positive team and work environment for everyone. Nurses should always collaborate with each other to maximize the potential of proving care and comfort to the patient. Nurses should always play a significant part to develop a better image of nursing by working based on our professional and moral ethics. Society should also appreciate the work of Nurses, They deserve all the recognition and respect for the hard work they put in to provide comfort to sick people. (Brandi, Dahlin. 2018).
