Introduction
Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln were famous leaders, and they were alike in numerous ways, as both were rulers and ruled their respective countries. Both had a lot of power and had services for the betterment of their countries. Both had a history of participation in wars and were assassinated in the end. However, both were also different in numerous aspects, making them different from each other because they had different backgrounds. This paper will compare Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln in the context of similarities and differences in both leader’s actions and their personalities.
Discussion
Julius Caesar was born on 12 July 100 BCE and was a Roman general and statesman who made the Roman Republic a powerful Empire and added a new chapter in Roman history (Stevenson, 2014, p. 15). He was a famous author of Latin prose, and his life, along with his achievements, has had an enormous impact on Western history as well as culture. Moreover, he was responsible for establishing a configuration of interactions between East and West that are still followed in Western culture.
Moreover, he was a leader during a time when people did not participate in decision-making. Thus, he had lots of power and using that power, he was able to manage a huge army. This vast power proved a source of his death, and he was assassinated due to the fear of the Senate regarding his massive power. Old histories consider him as a tyrant also, and they justify assassination in this context as the person who killed Julius Caesar was a liberator.
Abraham Lincoln Lincoln was born on 12th Feb 1809 and was the 16th U.S president who is considered an authority for the end of slavery in the United States (Ingersoll, 2009, p. 5). He managed to bring the country close to equality during his time period. He was an excellent orator who, with the help of this ability, made American citizens aware of the situation. His first inaugural speech and his Gettysburg Address are excellent examples of his ability. He was killed near a theatre on 14th April 1865 by an actor. He was involved in the military, and in 1832, he was procured to fight in the black Hawk War (Anastaplo, 2010).
During his first term as president, he was an inexperienced politician who had to face a crisis in the South. He managed all hardships through his leadership and courage, and his policies had a lasting influence on American society. As he was a leader of the union, thus, he had a huge authority that he used to eliminate the slavery. Grounded on this, the American Civil War occurred, and as a result, there was no slavery in American society. He was assassinated for his backing of black equal rights and for his struggle to end slavery.
Conclusion
Both leaders were assassinated, but in their assassination, there are lots of similarities and differences as well. The reason behind their assassination was, no doubt, the power and authority attached to their ruling. However, both are famous leaders in the history of performing their services for their countries, Rome and the United States, although they were born in different time periods. Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln’s early and political lives, along with their assignations, have many similarities. Roman and the United States were stubborn in admitting the modifications that both leaders wanted to enforce at that time, and as a result, they lost great leaders. Still, Lincoln’s incredible efforts have a lasting influence on the nation today, and the same is the case with Julius Caesar’s efforts.
