Before the invention of Television and making the genre of movies or motion pictures, people were offered little variety of entertainment and activities as they used to spend their leisure time often routinely listening to the same things on the radio. In the late eighteenth and the early nineteenth century, Television and movies were invented to broaden the perspective of entertainment which were considered luxuries at that specific period of time. Time has worn on and people have become used to these luxuries that have become the most common form of entertainment in today’s world. Building on their background and distinctiveness, this essay compares and contrasts the similarities of TV and movies that have become common as well as stark differences between both that have become popular in the contemporary world.
With the advancement in technology and innovations in motion pictures, Television and movies become very popular in the contemporary world. Both have creatively matured with time and kept on expanding as thought-provoking work, becoming popular in similarities and also acknowledging differences as TV and movies are both extremely common but also very different. Both forms of entertainment offer a complete escape from everyday life even if this luxury is for a few hours of being in the comfort of their home. However, people choose to watch TV while being at home resting on a couch in their living room rather than going out to watch a movie. Many prefer to go to the cinema to enjoy their life to the best of their abilities and potential. Thus, one similarity that both systems of entertainment share is that they both are entertainment systems to fill in the sensation that people crave to occupy their free time. In terms of comparison or differences when it comes to TV shows and movies, the former is the sequence of series that plays out in episodes and people wonder what would happen next for a couple of months or years, but the latter has no seasons or episodes to give off more about what amazing things would be going to take action within the series (Kalayeh et al.).
An additional similarity between both systems of entertainment is that they require a lot of production to make sure everything turns out the right way before the product goes into the airing process and gets released into the public eye. Producers involved in making a TV show or a movie make sure that they follow multiple rules and guidelines within the set structure before it comes into play out on TV screens or in the cinemas. The process takes a while for the structure, production, sequence of events, and airing process to play out the plot or the storyline (Thompson). The potential difference between both systems is the time frame as TV shows can last for a very long time period but movies have to be concluded in a certain period of time. The element of suspense in TV shows that keeps people engaged for a certain period of months is the reason people gravitate more towards watching TV shows than movies or films. Movies are only watched when people have a short period of time and are in the mood to watch them just to kill their boredom. Moreover, both share a similarity as people indulge themselves in watching them connect more to their culture-specific things as they provide connection and emotional experience related to a specific culture.
Either way, TV shows and movies are both the major systems of entertainment in the contemporary world that people gravitate towards to keep them occupied for the time being. They are watched and enjoyed by people all around the world although they do not really care how both systems of entertainment are comparable and how they differentiate as both, TV shows and movies, look alike but ever so different in many of their features and aspects. However, it is not necessary that people should learn to understand the basics of both systems or become confused while differentiating between them as they only watch them in order to enjoy once when they come into contact with any of these forms of entertainment. People watch them for entertaining themselves and producers make them to get money. In sum, both systems are a rich source of entertainment as they provide emotional experience, a luxury to spend leisure time, connect to their respective cultures, and satisfy the need to enjoy and kill the boredom that people experience during the bustling routines of their daily lives.
