Part B

Most of the times, if one talks about the way a genogram is being made, the idea is to make sure that the mapping out of the relationships that constitute the family tree as well as the interfamily dynamics can be seen. One of the ideas behind the creation of this genogram was to make sure that the sort of conflicts that used to be witnessed among the family, most of the times, they are a good tool when it comes to developing an understanding regarding some of the motivation of the person and how they are behaving in a certain manner.

To make sure that there is a complete perspective with regards to this genogram, I started first by speaking to my mother and grandmother. The reason being is that they are one of the few family members who I tend to know very well and have interactions with them on the regular basis. Then comes the fact that there is a certain degree of emotional intimacy and closeness with these people which I cannot foresee in some of the other family members. It was also one of the main reasons that I opted for such an option. I also tend to know my mother’s side rather well as compared to my father so that also acted as an additional motivator during the course of the whole process.

The other thing that dawned on me during the construction of the genogram is that most of the times, the core of the conflicts that are happening in the family is due to the women. In my case, most of the problems were coming from my grandmother and the sort of issues that she had with the other people. It also allowed me to understanding something about the family dynamic of my family as I was able to see that more or less all the women members in my family are rather assertive and dominant in their own way. My mother was a very headstrong women and in some ways, her stead fasted methods has come across to some of as well. I was able to also see through some of the major conflicts that I have witnessed during the course of my family life. Now, the key thing that has to be noted that it is not necessary that the genogram is showing to show the way traits in the family are going to be working but at times it does show the way about the behaviour of the people. It is specially the case if one talk about the way formation of the conditional lines is carried out. Looking at the way Big Five Personality Model works, the human personality is based on the five components of the human personality, which are

  1. Openness
  2. Conscientiousness
  3. Extraversion
  4. Agreeableness
  5. Neuroticism

The interesting thing that I went rough during the course of the creation of this project was that how these trains are pronounced in each of the respective family member of mine. The openness and the extraversion were some of the traits that stood out the most during the course of the whole process. When this model is being applied to the members of the family, the people who are ranked high on the openness and the extraversion are the ones that that stand out the most during the whole time period.

The openness means that whenever there is going to be any problem, the likelihood is that it is going to be talked about in front of everyone in great detail. Due to that, it means that the extent of secrets that one gets to see in my family are far and quite few and at the same time, it also means that even if there are little things that could have been ignored, as they are being discussed in such a pronounced manner, they tend to eat up lot of time of the individual during the whole time period. As far as the extraversion among the family members is concerned, the there is always lot of exaggeration of the little things and when we were able to put our differences aside, we were able to loosen up in quite an appropriate manner. The amount of verbal’s that tend to go in my family have never been short and due to that, no matter what the equation is , there is always lot of chatter going on. Initiating a conversation is something that I assume have come to me from all the members of my family. Although the traits and the habits are not being incorporated in the actual genogram, they have went a long way in making me realize that what are some of the sets of beliefs that tend to shape my family are what are some of the issues that are needed to be take into consideration when charting the genogram of my family.
