The research study selected for the analysis of t-tests used in the article is titled “Analysis of T-Test Misuses and SPSS Operations in Medical Research Papers” written by Guangping Liang, Wenliang Fu, and Kaifa Wang. The research aims to improve the quality of statistical analysis by identifying and correcting misuse of t-tests in medical research papers. The authors analyze the misuses and provide examples of how to perform t-tests correctly using SPSS software for research purposes. They explain 5 types of misuses of t-tests in the present study including using t-test for multifactor design, t-test usage for multiple groups, t-test for non-quantitative data, t-test without checking the assumptions, and using t-tests for non-independent data in the research (Liang et al., 2019).
The study is an interest to me because it explores the misuse of t-tests which is used for multiple groups. It is useful because it shows the importance of evaluating and selecting the appropriate statistical methods. Moreover, the study is interesting as it provides practical guidance and tips for using t-tests and performing the data analysis correctly to improve the validity and reliability of the results of the study. The paper is useful and informative for learners, educators, and researchers who want to learn more about t-tests, their usage, and SPSS.
The dependent variable used in the research is the quality of the statistical analysis and the independent variable is the SPSS operation in medical research papers. The former variable can be measured by the types and frequency of t-test misuses as well as the credibility of the results whereas the latter variable can be categorized by different options in SPSS software and different types of t-tests such as two-sample independent or two-sample paired tests.
The type of t-test used in the present research paper is independent sample or group t-test which is used to compare the means of two groups of medical research papers. The two groups are categorized as the researchers who used t-tests correctly and those who used t-tests incorrectly in the analysis. The results or findings of the research conclude that the t-test is a convenient and powerful statistical tool that provides real help to improve the data analysis ability of medical researchers. However, t-tests should be used with great caution and understanding to achieve desired and appropriate research results.
