“Oedipus” is the well-known Greek story which is successfully characterized as the feature of the tragedy refers to the Sophocles playwright. The particular play of Oedipus was initially presented in 429 BCE. The play of Oedipus explains the life of the King Oedipus. The particular character of the Oedipus Rex can be characterized as the one influential tragic hero who is going through with different, unusual life events. The major tragedy associated with the Oedipus is that that he has accidentally killed his father to become king. Later he formulates a sexual relationship with his mother without knowing this fact. The realization of this particular facet is deteriorating for the King Oedipus which leads him to the immense level of psychological disruption. Here the particular focus is to analyze the particular lines from the Oedipus initially critically. The second intention is to discuss the difference between power and authority concerning the characters from Oedipus Rex.
“Their Father is greater than Time, and ages not. / The tyrant is a child of Pride/ who drinks from his great sickening cup Recklessness and vanity. / Until from his high crest headlong/ He plummets to the dust of hope. That strong man is not strong.”

Aristotle explains the facet of the tragic hero by considering the specific characteristics. According to Aristotle, the tragic hero must be considered as the influential person who holds different forms of sins. The tragic hero always come up with the consideration of error concerning to the feature of judgment. This particular feature ultimately becomes the reason of suffering which ultimately appears in case of adverse consequences. The desire of power makes it difficult for the Oedipus to accept the character of King appear in case of Laius.
The particular features of power and authority can be considered as the crucial features in case of Oedipus Rex. Characters of the story adopt the feature of authority to attain their desires. It is notable to mention that the characters of the following story have not the necessary consideration to figure out the difference between the aspects of power and authority. Both the characters of Oedipus and Laius are the examples of the specific characters which fails to differentiate between the features of authority and power. The ultimate goal of the Oedipus to attain the feature of power to influence others. He utilizes the paradigm of authority to influence different people. On the other, Laius also consider the aspect of power as the ultimate authority to sustain his kingship. He sacrifices his son to avoid the dangerous implications of the particular curse. Oedipus also use the feature of authority to deal with the feature of plague although he was not aware of the reality. The character of Oedipus come up with the following thoughts: “When the ruling king had fallen in this way.” (Sophocles and Johnston, 12).
