Free enterprise systems and successful entrepreneurship are complementary to each other in any society around the globe. It may transform any society and its individuals towards goal-oriented and hardworking population (Philippon, 2019). Considering media industry, Oprah Winfrey is a marvelous example of success. This argumentative essay will explore the role of free enterprise system to make Oprah Winfrey a successful entertainment icon in a society where discrimination prevails.
Free enterprise system gives freedom to individuals concerning economic and social aspects to overcome their past disasters and complexes. Oprah Winfrey belongs to black community, a child of unmarried parents, victim of sexual abuse at childhood and a female. She made her way in the white and male dominant profession of entertainment industry due to the very freedom provided to her by free enterprise system. If she belonged to some society with controlled enterprise system, she would definitely become a failed person with no achievements. Other than socio-economic freedom, this system enables an individual to make decisions concerning products according to need of the time. The entrepreneur life of Oprah Winfrey is an example of the fact that she produced, directed, wrote and streamlined her works according to public demand and her will. While free enterprise system is unrestricted of government support, so she made her decisions without any force, government pressure and also neglected social taboos as well. That is why she successfully hosted her show for twenty five years with multiple dimensions. As an actress and best-selling book writer, she may owe her success to free enterprise system to provide her opportunity to succeed irrespective of color, cast, ethnic, religious or creed differences. She grew in the industry like ever-shining star while others faded away from the screen after short span of time. In other words, due to free enterprise system she freely and successfully handled her competitors and approached to consumers as a driving force. Above all, she transformed her miserable life to a role model celebrity due to existence of free enterprise system in the country.
Finally, it can be concluded that the free enterprise system has the potential to transform lives to prosperity by providing equal opportunities to individuals. The life story of Oprah Winfrey is evidence in this context.
