Analysis Of The Genogram

Most of the time, if one talks about the way a genogram is being made, the idea is to make sure that the mapping out of the relationships that constitute the family tree, as well as the interfamily dynamics, can be seen. One of the ideas behind the creation of this genogram was to make sure that the sort of conflicts that used to be witnessed among the family, most of the time, are a good tool when it comes to developing an understanding regarding some of the motivation of the person and how they are behaving in a certain manner.

To make sure that there is a complete perspective with regard to this genogram, I started first by speaking to my mother and grandmother. The reason is that they are one of the few family members I tend to know very well and interact with on a regular basis. Then comes the fact that there is a certain degree of emotional intimacy and closeness with these people, which I cannot foresee in some of the other family members. It was also one of the main reasons that I opted for such an option. I also tend to know my mother’s side rather well than my father’s, so that also acted as an additional motivator during the course of the whole process.

The other thing that dawned on me during the construction of the genogram is that most of the time, the core of the conflicts that are happening in the family is due to the women. In my case, most of the problems came from my grandmother and the issues that she had with other people. It also allowed me to understand something about the family dynamic of my family as I was able to see that more or less all the women members in my family are rather assertive and dominant in their own way. My mother was a very headstrong woman, and in some ways, her fast methods have come across to some as well. I was able to also see through some of the major conflicts that I have witnessed during the course of my family life. Now, the key thing that has to be noted is that it is not necessary for the genogram to show the way traits in the family are going to be working, but at times, it does show the way about the behaviour of the people. This is especially the case if one talks about the way the formation of the conditional lines is carried out. Looking at the way the Big Five Personality Model works, the human personality is based on the five components of the human personality, which are

  1. Openness
  2. Conscientiousness
  3. Extraversion
  4. Agreeableness
  5. Neuroticism

The interesting thing that I went through during the course of the creation of this project was how these trains are pronounced in each of my respective family members. Openness and extraversion were some of the traits that stood out the most during the course of the whole process. When this model is applied to the members of the family, the people who are ranked high on openness and extraversion stand out the most during the whole time period.

Openness means that whenever there is going to be any problem, the likelihood is that it is going to be talked about in front of everyone in great detail. Due to that, it means that the extent of secrets that one gets to see in my family are far and quite few. At the same time, it also means that even if there are little things that could have been ignored, as they are being discussed in such a pronounced manner, they tend to eat up a lot of time of the individual during the whole time period. As far as the extraversion among the family members is concerned, there is always a lot of exaggeration of the little things, and when we were able to put our differences aside, we were able to loosen up in quite an appropriate manner. The amount of verbals that tend to go in my family has never been short, and due to that, no matter what the equation is, there is always a lot of chatter going on. Initiating a conversation is something that I assume has come to me from all the members of my family. Although the traits and the habits are not being incorporated in the actual genogram, they have gone a long way in making me realize that what are some of the sets of beliefs that tend to shape my family are what are some of the issues that need to be taken into consideration when charting the genogram of my family.
