The policing strategy depends on the type of police in which a policeman is working. The traditional police duty is to keep check and balance in their respective areas and fire cases against a crime, and then the problem-oriented police solve the issues regarding crime. However, when the question arises related to severe crime, the duty of the entire police department is to reduce that. Their main focus should be to apply strategies that are helpful in controlling crime or reducing the level of crime. The implementation should be according to the severity of the crime.
Most of the crime rate can be reduced by applying the strategies of hot spots and problem-oriented policing. If the crime is at a massive place like a mall, then the strategies of traditional police do not work. Because the place is huge, different types of crimes could be committed there, and criminals of different minds could be involved. So, by considering all these things, the strategies should prevail, too. Before applying strategies, civil rights must be kept in mind because those shouldn’t harmed while applying strategies (Diep, 2017).
The main strategy must be to control crime and catch criminals without harming the individuals or communities who are not involved in all these activities. Firstly, the problem is identified in the community or place, and then the strategy is decided. Before applying a strategy, there must be guidelines for community people that will ensure that the plan will not harm them, so the first priority must be their security. Studies show that this policy is helpful in controlling crime. Hot spot police can reduce the crime rate in the short term unless it is not applied in the surroundings, too (Nunn, 2018).
