What Makes Google the Best Place to Work?

Everyone has a dream to work for an employer who is the best paymaster and gives perks and benefits to the employees. A workplace that has a great environment and that offers the chances for growth to its employees, a company that has a vision and a stated policy, which has friendly culture, an environment where one can collaborate with others, encourages open communication, has a fun atmosphere, a company that has a number of professional people who take ownership of the company. Also, a company that always welcomes feedback from employees. These all are the characteristics of an ideal workplace where everyone would like to work. Based on all these qualities I would like to work for “Google” which is one of the leading companies in the world. On Glassdoor, the employees of Google give it a rating of 4.4 out of 5, which is a huge compliment for the company. Google has consistently maintained a leading position in tech companies. Therefore, Google is like a dream employer for those who are seeking employment.

Working for Google means you are having a top-class diversified experience. Google clearly has a competitive edge when it comes to competing in a global marketplace, technology, and innovation. Google is the biggest digital advertising company. Also, Google holds a dominating position in the search industry. Almost 70% of searches are conducted through Google, many people around the world use the term internet and google interchangeably (Duhigg, C., 2016).

The number of searches on google goes up to about 20 billion per month. Google also dominates several other markets as well (Andrew Lipsman). Through google websites, Google generates revenue in multi-billions, a variety that includes Youtube and Gmail. Annually, google search achieves a growth of 20%, which is a significant level of growth. With the pace at which Google is going at the moment, it’s really difficult for other companies to come close to Google in the competition (Duhigg, C., 2016). Every internet user around the world knows about Google and its’s utilities. Whereas, there are many search engines on the market which are still anonymous to net users. Google has also provided many benefits in distribution, which would be difficult for a small web search starter to handle.

Most importantly, Google controls Android, which is the leading operating system of mobiles worldwide. One of the most notable achievements of Google is the development of Chrome which has turned out to be the world’s most famous browse. In both cases, Google remains the default search engine. Google is extensively working on the future level of searches which indicates that it is operating with a clear vision of growth and facilitating its users and also its employers. Google now is also a very effective application that guides you on what you need before you actually demand that. Other prominent apps are apple’s voice a search tool etc. Google is continually on the path of innovation and research and development which is why Google always finds itself ahead in the marketplace. Once Facebook was considered to be a real challenger for Google regarding searching but this wasn’t the case as Facebook launched its search tools relatively slow. Facebook is impressive when it comes to Facebook search directories, it’s web search tool is powered by Bing, which is not impressive at all. Considering all these qualities of google, it’s easy to say that Google is the giant in the market and it’s really hard for any other web search company/organization to beat Google or give it a tough time.

Google knows how to get the best of out its workforce. They have a diversified level of workforce with workers from all over the world. they are managing their workforce very well, they provide their employees with an environment that is ideal to work in, and their overall structure is very impressive. Globally, their workforce consists of 69% of males and 31% females, which is a very good representation of females in any organization. On the basis of ethnicity, 56% of the employees are white, 35% Asian, 2% Black, 4% Hispanic, less than 1% Native Americans, less than 1% Pacific Islanders, and 4% are two or more (Dabirian et al.). These figures show that Google gives work opportunities to all the nations of the world, which is one of the distinguishing features of this organization. Google declares they are working hard to avoid bias and prejudice in their system to develop a more reliable and equitable google. From 90 offices of Google in 42 countries of the world, 700 of its employees are working on more than 30 projects with the help of a program that gives them the opportunity to dedicate 20% of their duty time to the diversity approach of Google (Bock, L, 2015). This is termed one of the most popular perks given by google to its employees.

As a result of this approach, Google was able to launch the most significant products such as Google News and Gmail. Google wants all of its employees to participate in diversity programs and give their feedback for growth and development. The workforce at Google take ownership of these programs and they are always ready to work effectively for the company. The diversity core is an official program in which employees of the company engage minorities and women to create a more friendly environment for them at Google in the tech industry so that they can also make their healthy contributions. Google cares about the diversified population.

The code of conduct of Google is one of the methods that they always follow the fair practice, their employees, members of the board and CEO always adopt the best standards of business conduct. They show their commitment to the best code of conduct to maintain their top position in the world. Google has the policy of “no retaliation” against the employees who report any misconduct or breach of the code of conduct of the policies. “serve our user” is another important part of their policy, google always values its users, as customers also regard google greatly because of the fact that they hold a leading position in the market. Integrity is also their core value to safeguard their reputation. Google says that integrity is their valuable asset, through their hard work and excellence they have earned the trust of users and they want to maintain that level of trust. They believe that all of their communication with their users should increase their level of trust on us.

“Privacy, Security and Freedom of Expression”. To keep the trust intact, Google says that all of its users and stakeholders should respect the privacy policy and security of the information. Their security methods restrict access to the user’s private information and they signify the protection of data from any unauthorized access to maintain the standard and sense of security among all the users. Google also believes in freedom of expression for all of its users around the world and respects everyone’s opinion. “Responsiveness” is another core value of google as they always welcome the feedback from their users and always respond to the positive feedback, they are always courteous to their users and customers. “Take Action” is another code of conduct through which google take appropriate action in case its users, customers, and employees are not served well or treated properly. “Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination”.

Google doesn’t tolerate harassment, bullying, and discrimination of any kind. Any form of harassment whether verbal, physical or through any gesture is unacceptable at google. The authorities take strict action if anyone is involved in any such practices. “Drugs and Alcohols” are not allowed during working hours. Although, Google doesn’t ban the consumption of alcohol it has a policy not to take alcohol to a level that affects your working at the workplace. “Safe Workplace” Google is committed to maintaining a safe work environment for its employees, an environment that is free of violence and negativity. Also, Google doesn’t allow its employees to accept any undue favor and receive any gifts from clients to give them an undue favor. Google is an equal opportunity employer that hires people strictly on the basis of their professional competence. They are strictly against any kind of discrimination or harassment on the grounds of color, race, religion, origin, ancestry, pregnancy, status, gender, specific identity, disability, sexual orientation, status or any such elements are protected by law. Google makes all the adjustments to comply with the rules and regulations to maintain high standards at every level of their organization.

Finally, considering the market position of Google, their workforce, policies, morality, and code of conduct, I would like to be a part of the workforce of google as I strongly believe that Google is a market leader in web searching and in innovation. For my personal growth, I consider Google as the best platform for myself, and after joining Google, I am hopeful that I would prove to be an asset to the company. I am really inspired by the overall culture of Google and I think their working environment is great. At Google, I will have the opportunity to interact with a diversified group of people. The experience and exposure of my colleagues would enhance my knowledge and personality. Therefore, Google is my preference as a workplace and is a future prospect for me.
