Teaching and Learning Case Study

Case Discussion

Jim Edmonds is a fourth-grade teacher, having a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He is teaching the science subject to grade four. The dilemma here is that he doesn’t have the grip on the subject and his lecture topic even though he prepared in the best possible way he could and that’s the reason he got confronted by his student Darren whose knowledge regarding the subject and especially the topic exceeded from that of the teacher.

A science teacher usually got extended educational training, recognized qualification and/or affiliation of a career or governing organization. The educational career, not duty-bound a teacher to devise the potentials but also attempts to sustain them. A teacher’s proficient progress is the achievement of diverse perceptions and concepts, and the amalgamation of a broader vision of what education implicates. While considering the case, Jim doesn’t have the required expert education, awareness of the subject and the proper training and expertise what are preliminary for teaching. So in my opinion, a decent specialized, trained and skilled teacher is required irrespective of the grade they are teaching. An instructor needs to design learning resources that aid learners to improve specific abilities and overlook what is not upright that was absorbed formerly, e.g., during the infancy period.

There are different theories about science teaching and learning. A few of them are mentioned below:

Behavior learning theory

It outlooks knowledge as variation in percentage/regularity of happening or type of conduct or reaction that happens chiefly as a purpose of ecological reasons.

Intellectual learning theory

It focuses on the achievement of familiarity and expertise, development of conceptual arrangements and dispensation of info and philosophies.

Constructive-ism theory of learning

Constructive-ism is a philosophy of information with origins in philosophical education and consciousness.

In my opinion, the solution to this case or Jim’s dilemma is that the school administration should hire a well-trained and qualified teacher who got his majors in science to improve the school’s teaching level as well as the abilities of the students and their level of knowledge and subject.

In my opinion, the solution I provided for the case is viable as a proficient and qualified teacher can lead his/her class in a better way than an unqualified teacher like Mr. Jim. He will have a better confidence level as well as a much better grip on the topic and the overall subject, and he can cater the queries and questions arising in a student’s mind in a much better way than an unqualified teacher. When a teacher has a good grip on his subject and topic, he can cater any query arising in the mind of fresh students. The teacher can describe the concept in the most comfortable way possible as he will have his hold on the topic.

While reading the case, the character of Darren seems attention-grabbing. The way he keeps on distracting others in the class and the teacher’s method of treating him is curious. A proper counseling is needed for Darren to make him a productive citizen of the nation.

To summarize the conversation, it can be concluded that learning philosophies and principles are of immense significance to educators to get a good grip on the relevant subject as well as the ways to deal the students in class and during the lecture time.
