Personal Statement Law

As I devote my time to focus on pursuing my dream of studying law, I revisit how it all originally started. I recalled a time when I was a teenager growing up in Pittsburgh, PA in the late 90s and early 2000s. In utter shock and dismay, I watched as a group of elderly people was displaced from their homes because a shopping center was being built right where their homes formally were. They lost their homes and had nobody to advocate for them because they were African American citizens. This brought about some conflict between city citizens. I was frustrated by this gentrification and wondered what I could do to help. A few weeks into thinking of what I could do for them, I suddenly had a “eureka” moment, and my lifelong commitment to become a lawyer was born.

I did not, however, start off on my journey immediately. Most of my career was spent as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. During my time as a paratrooper, I have been able to jump out of over 100 perfectly working planes. There is a jumping process which always starts with me sitting on a red nylon netted seat with a T-11 parachute attached to my bag. What follows is a series of commands from the jump master. Surprisingly, no matter how many times I had prepared for these jumps, every single experience was different, and I always had an adrenaline surge. I always anticipated the commands: GET READY, HOOK UP and CHECK STATIC LINES. I would unbuckle my safety belt, attach my static line and do one more inspection for any tears that had occurred since my last jump. It is at this point that I would stand with my static line in hand and wait for the signal to jump and finally launch myself from the airplane and what initially seemed like torture while waiting to jump turns to serenity. I am not just weightless, I am, indeed, airborne!

Over the years, the jumping experience has been able to shed light on some realities in my life. I have learned that we are never really prepared, each day will be different and therefore, we must choose our battles wisely. I have come to understand the importance of process in the journey of progress. I have been able to grow in my profession and personally by taking “jumps” even when I was not sure. I have been able to fortify my educational outcome, and in May 2018, I will graduate from Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature with a concentration in Pre-Law. During my time at the university, I was able to maintain a GPA of 3.45 and participate in many professional opportunities including an internship at Fayetteville Urban Ministries. I am also an active member of the Pre-Law Society and a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

As I have grown career-wise and in my education, I now feel like it is time for me to take yet another “jump.” I am eager to delve deeper into law so that I can begin the process of helping people like my displaced neighbors. Hence, I would appreciate an opportunity at Wake Forest University School of Law. I feel as if my experience as an airborne soldier was the T-11 parachute that has prepared me for the “jump” into law school. Now that I have completed my English degree with a concentration in Pre-Law, I feel I am ready to hook-up and leap! I also feel that Vermont School of Law will prepare me for my next jump into the practice of law.

The Vermont Law School would be helpful in a great many ways for achieving my goals. My grades are reflecting my compatibility with the language studies specifically in my past. Law is a very complicated discipline and it requires higher social exposure, interaction with the clients, opposition and the juries. The most important achievement which I would be able to enjoy in the future is that the teachers in the school are able to help the students build their inner capabilities which would make them pursue the law career very efficiently.

I have noticed a number of high profile cases being handled by the Vermont school graduates and they finish them successfully, I have a belief that my skills and the school’s education would help in creating a perfect combination which would help me in considering the high profile cases and to become a highly reputed lawyer at very early time of my law practice.

Vermont school is considered as the best Law schools among the other regional schools and I believe that I would be one of the best output of that institute. Its infrastructure is well designed for the educational purpose and the students are very nice entertained well on time. The classes are small so that the interaction between the teachers and the students would be utmost. This is a perfect approach for the Law schools to increase the teacher-student interaction so that the students would be able to groom their skills perfectly and according to the latest trends and situations.

I will try my best to complete my degree well on time. Career enhancement and grooming are my top most priorities and I would never let you down. Kindly grant me admission in Vermont Law School and I am looking forward to a positive response.
