Pantheism is a worldview in which the believer refers to God as the universe and believes that all worldviews are correct. They think that anyone can get into God’s grace if they lead a good life and collect good karma (Myers & Noebel, 2015). This view is becoming popular through “New Age Spirituality” and there are different reasons behind it which are discussed below.
The biggest reason that people are rejecting traditional religions and opting for the New Spirituality is due to their belief that the traditional religions are cruel. It is hard for them to believe that the God that is said to be merciful and benevolent who loves all His creations; in one section of the Scripture can be so unforgiving that did not actively follow the religion. They feel that the Bible contradicts itself by making these statements as God can either be all-loving or completely cruel; not both. What they see as cruelty is the way of God to warn them about the path they have chosen for themselves. For instance; parents reward their children when they do something good and punish them when they do something wrong. This is to protect them from the worst punishment. As God has created man in His image; He too does not want his creation to go down the wrong path.
Another reason is that they cannot believe that good people may end up in hell just because they did not believe in God but they forget that in the end, they would be returning to Him and if they do not believe He exists then who are they returning to? This belief cannot exist with the Christian worldview as it rejects the essence of Christianity which is God Himself. “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,” (1 Timothy 4:1).
