In the medical field, both nurse managers and leaders play a vital role and ensuring the provision of high-quality care services. Keeping their role in mind, it has been witnessed that nurse managers it is important for a nurse-manager to develop all the essential leadership abilities and competencies. It would help them in performing the assigned duties in the best possible way. Being a nurse manager, the following are my strengths and weaknesses in the given areas:
Personal And Professional Accountability
Strengths:
- Personal growth and development should be focused on when professional accountability is concerned. Personal growth includes continuing education, planning of career, action plans and annual self-assessment (Keogh et al,2019). My personal growth and development are one of my basic strengths, as I used to check my annual performance.
- I held myself responsible for the whole year’s performance and pointed out areas that should be worked on.
- My next strength in the area of personal and professional accountability is that I do my annual self-assessment, which not only helps me but also helps in provide the best services to others.
- I practice all those things that support nursing standards.
- I have proper certification in my field.
Weakness:
- I used to have, but at present, I don’t have an association with a professional association.
- I am focusing on education advancement, but at present, education continuation is missing.
- I lack involvement with professional associations that help in networking as well as professional development.
- I found it difficult to act on action plans as learning about action plans is easy, but transforming them into actual actions is difficult.
Career Planning
Strengthens:
- To become a successful nurse manager, it is important to know one’s role and plan a career wisely. Currently, I am focusing on developing in me skills that my job requires.
- I have properly planned what I want to achieve and which skills I need to develop in me for reaching that set point.
Weakness:
- I am preparing myself for the present but not considering my future needs. Veritably, future needs would be changed.
- Little flexibility and capacity are needed to adapt to the future scenarios that are missing in me currently.
- Choosing the right direction and the best career path is another difficulty that I face, as I have multiple career directions.
Personal Journey Discipline
Strengths:
- In this area (personal journey discipline), council management is important, and I am learning and using skills that would help me in managing the council.
- I use various techniques of action learning to solve a problem.
- I use action-leaning techniques to give my personal opinion on decisions being taken.
- I am efficiently learning skills that make an individual a leader.
Weakness:
- It would take time for me to reflect on things and show perfect leadership behaviour.
- Basic skills are the same, but learning how to use them as per the scenario is still the weak area that I need to work on.
Reflective Practice References Behavior/Tenets
Strengths:
- Holding and supporting truth in every situation is one the toughest things, but I have developed in me this skill of withstanding the truth no matter how hard it is.
- Despite the ambiguity of the environment, I have learned how to deal with it comfortably; that is one of my achievements being a nurse manager.
- I appreciate diversity and welcome it wholeheartedly. Appreciating diversity would help a nurse manager learn how to treat everyone on equal grounds without considering which race, religion or gender one belongs to (Raines et al.,2019).
- I always try to maintain a balance to keeping my spirit high for performing the best role in my field. Being committed to my profession is one of my strengths that helps me grow.
- I always found myself excited to explore new dimensions of knowledge that helped me learn new things related to my profession.
- Knowing the potential in one’s self and others is a primary leadership skill that I have developed. I used this skill and motivate others to do things that they thought they could not.
Weakness:
- Before making a decision, I take into account multiple perspectives that take a long to finalize my judgment.
- Sometimes, it becomes difficult for me to maintain a distance in the intellectual and emotional decision.
- Learning how to express reflection in an appropriate way is a time-consuming process.
Current Leadership Skills For Making Changes At The Workplace
Taking into consideration the environment of my workplace, I would first take a look at the weak areas and would try to utilize my leadership skills to make a required change that would improve the working environment of my workplace (LaCross et al.,2019). I would use my skills of reflecting on the decision being made and would try to make reforms if a decision is not made wisely. I would keep myself and others motivated to incorporate positive changes at my workplace that would work best in favour of the nursing field.
My Goal
For the sake of my leadership growth, I aim to continue my education as advancement in education helps in learning new techniques as per the time. It has been seen that with the advancement of time, needs in every field change, so I aim to continue my education and achieve a specialization degree in my field. I am planning to get myself involved with certain associations before taking admission. To achieve this set goal I would search the best institutions and get myself enrolled for having advanced education regarding my profession.
