Is Marijuana A Danger Or A Blessing In Disguise?

Marijuana is one of the most popular abused drugs in the world. There is always a growing gap between the latest science on marijuana and the myths that surround it. There is a group of people who believe that because it is illegal, then it is unsafe. Well, your body does not know what is legal or illegal. The only thing your body acknowledges is the effects of the drug once you take it. Marijuana is extracted from an Indian hemp plant; the drug is found in flower, generally referred to as the “buds”. When it’s sold out, it consists of a mixture of dried leaves, flowers, stems, and hemp plant seeds. There is a lot of debate on the use of marijuana. This essay aims to explore and clarify misunderstandings about pot.

From a physician’s perspective, marijuana has its pros and cons. Recent research indicates that pot could have a substantial impact on children and adults who have cancer, Alzheimer and epilepsy. Hemp can be used as a treatment plan for these diseases and many others. Used as a painkiller, it would reduce demand for narcotics and decrease accidental painkiller overdoses, preventing deaths. Marijuana is a drug, and it should be treated as medicine.

Some physicians disagree with medical marijuana, insisting the dangers and risks are real and known by their scientific community. Issues such as addiction, loss of productivity, deterioration in intellectual function, especially in young teens and psychosis, just to mention a few. They claim that we have medicines for all benefits alleged to exist in marijuana.

The U.S. government has passed the legalisation of marijuana use in some states. The previous president, Barack Obama, went on record stating that he thought prescribed medical use of marijuana was appropriate and should be used for science rather than common ideologies.

Past tests by health departments have stated that smoking marijuana brought about health risks. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services have declared that there is no scientific study in support of marijuana; it is not safe.

Further research has indicated marijuana is the safest and most efficient medical use for chronic pain. Over the years, marijuana has no record of a lethal dose. It is easily dosed by oral ingestion and vaporisation, thus avoiding the potential risk associated with smoking it.

However, there is no evidence supporting the effect of marijuana in lessening pain. It produces a short-term central nervous system, which increases anxiety. The pain claimed by some research is due to the influence of euphoria caused by marijuana, which can lead to addiction to the drug.

About 10% of marijuana users are psychologically dependent on the drug. Although there is very minimal evidence that the drug carries addiction, unlike cigarette smokers, most marijuana users do not take it on a daily basis, most leaving behind the habit in their late twenties and thirties. Unlike nicotine and alcohol, there is no withdrawal syndrome, which is a hallmark of real addiction.

However, some scientist disagrees with this report, claiming that approximately 9% of marijuana users have indicated addiction to long-term use of marijuana. Early and frequent use of marijuana predicts addiction. This leads to increased dependence on illegal drugs. Comparing users who start in their adulthood with users who start in their teenage years, approximately 2 to 4 users show a high dependence on marijuana after the first two years of use.

There is an exhaustive list of comparisons and contrasts on marijuana legalisation. Mostly, it is a collection of arguments in support of the drug legalisation. Most of the benefits were once theoretical, but some of them have been proven, and some states have legalised their use, although the high debate on its blessings and dangers continues in many countries.
