How many of you think that guns are meant for protection? I suppose that this belief would change after learning the number of people who lose their lives due to careless handling of this weapon by the people around them. This not only affects older people but also the children. My intention today is to make you understand how harmful this weapon is and oppose the ownership of guns among the people in society.
There are various reasons that make me believe that guns are harmful. One of them is that those people who have weapons are usually tempted to kill whenever they are abused or in case of any misunderstanding (Cevik et al. 2016). They fail to think of better negotiation methods, like reporting the issue to the officers, and the only thing that runs first in their minds is to kill. The other reason is that the tool is also harmful to children. Those kids who live with parents having guns have a high chance of killing. This is because, due to their innocence, they think that guns are toys, and with careless handling, they end up killing themselves or even others without their knowledge.
It is, therefore, advisable that we allow only people to use the tool in the proper ways to access it. This will most probably include police officers and other military. This is because they have heart enough training and teaching on how to use the weapon whenever there is a need. It is also important to educate people in society about the dangers of having guns around them and also encourage them to report anyone who they suspect could be having a gun (Gunn 2017). This way will reduce the number of deaths that occur daily due to careless handling of guns and will also reduce tension among people, who may be afraid of losing their lives simply because of a mere misunderstanding.
