Discuss your most valuable learning experience related to this unit. (This might include facts, concepts, insights, or ideas derived from the course content, outside research, your professor, peers, or professionals in the field.)

The knowledge I acquired during this unit that holds the highest value pertains to my enhanced comprehension of how ethical decisions are made in healthcare management. Specifically, Chapter 9 from the Ethics in Health Administration text showcased the significant need for fiscal responsibility and an equilibrium between mission and margin within medical organizations. Furthermore, “Ethics and Professionalism for Healthcare Managers” touched on additional moral considerations and difficult predicaments in managing healthcare facilities encounters (Forrestal & Cellucci,2016). These sources gave me insightful perspectives on the intricate ethical problems faced by administrators of these institutions.

Discuss an example(s) of knowledge, awareness, or skills you gained from this unit that might apply to your current or future career.

An instance of enlightenment obtained from this unit that I could apply to my future profession entails recognizing the value of cooperation between two high-level positions, namely the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer, when devising novel healthcare systems (Healthcare Financial Management Association,2015). The “Designing a new health care system: The need for CMO and CFO collaboration” piece highlighted how essential interdisciplinary teamwork is in integrating financial perspectives with clinical views. That newfound knowledge will prove immeasurably helpful when striving to ensure effective decision-making across multiple departments within medical organizations during my career path ahead.

Discuss ideas, material, research, topics, etc., you did not have time to investigate fully but would like to revisit. Consider storing your links in RefWorks for future access.

Because of being under temporal restrictions, I could not conduct thorough research into upcoding and its repercussions within healthcare. The written work titled “Upcoding: Evidence from Medicare on risk adjustment” by Maas left me with enlightenment concerning the occurrence of upcoding and its probable effects on healthcare remunerations (Maas,2015). I desire to focus on this topic again in the days ahead. This will enable me to gain deeper insights into ethical matters surrounding it alongside feasible remedies for addressing such concerns regarding upcoding.

Create a list of resources for future reference and use in your courses and career. This might include articles, authors, websites, professional organizations, research studies, publications, etc.

  • The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) has formulated a helpful document entitled “Considerations for Healthcare executive-supplier Interactions,” which furnishes necessary directives relating to ethical engagements between executives and suppliers in the field of medicine.
  • Within the published scholarly article by The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), titled “Lifelong Learning and Healthcare Executives,” there is a salient emphasis placed on the importance for healthcare executives to continuously engage in learning, thereby committing themselves to professional development.
