Death can be regarded as one of the greatest realities of life. Despite its centrality to our existence, most people avoid this topic and are faced with extreme anxiety at explaining their perceptions regarding it. It is, however, important to engage in conversations about this ultimate truth and understand where we are heading to better prepare for it. Comprehending the certainty of death and being aware of the afterlife can also prepare an individual to face the loss of loved ones with patience. The death of friends and family also makes us realize our mortality and helps us introspect about how close to death we are. My personal belief about death is aligned with this quote from the Bible, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain – Philippians 1:21” (Bible Gateway, 2020). Many people view death as a tragedy or a loss and never attribute it to gain. I believe that death is not a complete loss; it is not the end of one’s life. Rather, it is a transition into the afterlife. Keeping the above-mentioned quote in mind, I believe that humans should view life as an opportunity and spend it as per the teachings of Christ. Moreover, death should be regarded as a gain through which we would reunite with our Lord. With this view of death, I try to spend each day remembering the uncertainty of the world we live in and the fragility of humans. I strive that my actions are aimed at doing good. This belief in death as a stepping-stone into the afterlife has also helped me continuously reflect on my actions. While we often stray from the path of righteousness, the best that we can do is to realize our mistakes, seek His forgiveness, and try to live a life of goodness.
