Nowadays, many teachers are having problems in maintaining the classroom environment in schools. Classroom management is the most critical aspect of teaching, as without a proper classroom environment, students’ learning capacity is reduced drastically. To maintain a learning environment, teachers have to devise a plan to teach in an orderly manner, and students absorb knowledge effectively during their time in school. According to research, when the environment of the classroom is not regular, it affects the teacher’s delivery of knowledge and the learning engagement of students. A productive learning environment with clear communication and academic expectations cooperates in improving the learning environment of the classroom.
In this paper, I will discuss how I will ensure active learning in the classroom and apply it to maintain a stable learning environment. As a Spanish language teacher in middle school, it is a difficult job to keep the interest of students in the subject and ensure that every student is getting the required attention and time.
The first step in my devised plan is to create a favorable learning environment from the start of the year. It will be ensured that there is both physical and cognitive space for every student so that no student has a feeling of imprisonment in the classroom. It also will be assured that the visual aids and decorations in the class are appealing and leave a positive effect on students. To maintain a positive and pleasant-looking environment, I plan on adding pictures, charts and motivational quotes in the class that look pleasing to the eye, create a sense of freedom among the students and encourage them to provide their full in studies. My plan to convey my expectations to students is by setting rules and regulations of class that every student must follow. These rules will be declared at the start of the academic year and will be followed strictly.
- Crosstalk is prohibited in class, and students need to refer directly to the teacher in case of any issue or question.
- If any student has a question about the topic in the discussion, he/she will raise her hand and wait for the approval of the teacher, who will either answer the query right away or ask the student to wait until he concludes his lecture.
- All students will treat each other in a respected manner, no exchange of remarks, abuses, or personal attacks are allowed in class as it is an unethical way to behave with others.
- Students will give every other student their space and are not allowed to enforce anything on anyone. Class bullying is strictly prohibited and can result in severe punishment to the student by taking him to the principal office and even expulsion from school.
- The classroom environment should be organized, and no running or noise should be allowed in class.
The students must follow these rules, and breaking any rule can and will result in severe punishment.
Students will understand what the teacher’s expectations are from them, and there will be weekly plans that will describe the topic we will cover and how they will be assessed at the end of the week. Students will be given a piece of Spanish literature every weekend, and they will have to present their report and understanding of the content in a five-minute presentation the next working day. Student assessment will be done carefully and regularly, and every student who performs less will be called for an explanation with the teacher first, and if the problem continues, his parents will be called for a meeting. There will be absolutely no compromise on the learning of any student. Students will be appreciated for their performance in weekly quizzes, and the teacher will provide encouragement and rewards for the hardworking students.
By ensuring these points, I claim to maintain a better learning environment in the class. I devote myself to delivering the best understanding of the Spanish language to students and ensure that by the end of the term, every student has learned the objectives of the course and benefited from his time in my teaching.
