Introduction
Over the last few decades, divorce and separation have increased. Studies indicate that millennial adults are not committed to relationships, and therefore, it makes it difficult for many marriages and relationships to last for long. It has been established that most millennial adults prefer casual relationships rather than long-term commitments, and the trends are influenced by the way children are brought up. According to Berg (2014), children from nontraditional families are less submissive and do not value marriages compared to children from traditional families. Therefore, this makes it easy for them to divorce or separate from their relationship compared to children from traditional families.
A study by Heitler (2012) reports that the behaviour of children is influenced by their parents, and children learn a lot from parents compared to other environments; therefore, the process of divorce or separation hurts them. In return, most of them grow up disliking marriage and relationships, which makes them become less submissive and too defensive; therefore, it affects their future relationships and marriages. Therefore, it is important to find out whether children from nontraditional families are less submissive compared to children from traditional families.
Statement Of The Problem
Research has established that children from nontraditional families prefer to live a single life rather than getting committed to a relationship. This contributes to a high rate of divorce and separation in society. It has been discovered that lack of commitment and being less submissive to a relationship has caused a tremendous increase in sexual promiscuity due to having a bad attitude towards marriage.
Purpose Of The Study
The purpose of this study is to investigate crucial factors that have caused marriages to decline among the millennial generation. It also investigates the cause of sexual promiscuity, casual dating and high divorce rates over the last two decades. The study shall also be used to analyze the behaviour of children from nontraditional families and traditional families and derive the appropriate conclusion in regard to their behaviours in relationships and marriages.
Hypothesis
Children who come from nontraditional families are more defensive or less submissive when it comes to relationships compared to children from traditional families.
Significant Of The Study
This study could be used in two different ways. It can improve awareness of the rate of increased multiple generations, and therefore, it can used to address the psychological disorder among children in the society (Burns, 12). It can also be used to provide guidance to individuals affected by divorce and separation in society so that children do not grow up being traumatized by their past experiences. It can also provide detailed information which can be used to resolve conflicts and even negative feelings or attitudes associated with marriage and relationships. The study can also be used to better plan for a family with a good intention of living together for a longer time (Hoffman and Martin, 2014). The implementation of this report can result in a decline in the rate of sexually transmitted diseases in society since casual and unstable would be addressed amicably. It can be used to nurture children from nontraditional families to have a stable and better life since it highlights issues which affect families and, therefore, provides detailed recommendations on how to address issues affecting children in society.
Limitation Of The Study
It is evident that relationships are viewed differently, and it has been proved that perspective is based on how an individual is brought up. Therefore, children from nontraditional families and children from traditional families have totally different views when it comes to relationships (Johnston and Linda, 2013). However, the view of children might also depend on the financial stability and time at which the family separated. It is also noted that children from nontraditional families have a totally different perception regarding relationships. This affects the aspect of their lives, and therefore, it increases chances of sexual immorality in society.
Methodology
In order to complete the research accurately and comprehensively, quantitative and qualitative techniques shall be used to gather data and analyze it. The primary research shall be conducted from the field, and participants shall be given questionnaires to answer for further analysis. Secondary research shall involve the use of literature from academic journals, articles, and books. However, the research will be conducted using Google Scholar, Sage Journal and a library, where books and other useful materials shall be utilized to make sure that the objectives of the study are achieved.
Participants
The study shall be conducted in the community, where 340 participants will be asked to answer questions from questionnaires. However, to get a good representation that can reflect the view of society, the participants shall be between 17 and 45 years old. The selection of the participants shall be based on age, family background, level of education, gender, and marital status. The participants shall be recruited by telephone, and they will be invited to a community centre where questionnaires and discussions will be held.
Apparatus or materials
Several materials are required to ensure that the research is completed within the required time. Therefore, notebooks, laptops, statistical software known as SPSS, and pens shall be required to conduct the research and to make sure the study is completed within the given time.
Procedures
The primary research shall be done through a questionnaire whereby participants will be given questionnaires to answer and submit. Each participant will be expected to answer the questionnaire and submit it back for analysis. No participants would be expected to leave the interview centre with questionnaires to make sure that the information obtained is accurate. First, the participants will be grouped based on age, marital status, and level of education. This shall be done to make sure that the information obtained has a good representative of the community (Brian, 2016). Each participant would be expected to hand over his or her questionnaire to the interviewer.
However, secondary data or literature shall be collected through research using various academic databases such as Google Scholar and Sage. First, a search will be conducted using keywords, and then the results shall be analyzed to make sure that the best and most relevant academic journals and articles are obtained. The first search shall be subjected to critical analysis based on the publication date, the qualifications of the author, and the topic of the article so that only relevant and accurate information can be used to complete the study.
