Can a person realize that objects exist even when he cannot perceive them?

Can a person realize that objects exist even when he cannot perceive them? We can never be certain of anything, especially its existence when it cannot be perceived, but then again, our common sense has the ability to perceive all the probability as it continues to exist, even when it does not exist.

Another question is how do we know that an object exists even when they are being perceived? The great philosopher states, that surely there is no one skeptical to state that we cannot know the existence of an object that is directly perceived. Our common sense tells assures us there is an object when we directly perceive them.

After reviewing Locke’s answers, we come up with our own understanding of what we mean when someone says something exists. Analyzing the question from different angles concludes that when someone says something exists, that thing is actually being perceived. To mean that something is perceived, Esse est percipi.

Certainly, things do exist when they are perceived; this is what it means by “to be.” We tend to ask ourselves whether physical matter does exist. Well, our direct answer will be that if we can perceive it, then it exists, but if it does not exist, then we cannot perceive it. Thus, the question arises: can we see physical matter?

The answer to the above question might be pretty obvious, but looking at the question more closely. When we agree that we perceive physical matter, what are we claiming to perceive? For example, I saw a beautiful shellfish I picked at the beach yesterday, but then again, I asked myself, what am I sensing? I am sensing a hard brown etc. Hence, what I am actually seeing are sensations that I am getting from the shellfish. Locke thinks they are caused by qualities. However, according to Berkeley, all these qualities I perceive, such as the sensation from the hard brown-shaped shell, actually exist only in my mind and not in the external world.

Descartes extensively explained the reason for thinking, therefore I am. The quote is extracted from a discourse method by philosopher Rene Descartes. Since all his beliefs have deceived him before, dreaming of God is actually deceiving the demon itself. He convinces the world that nothing is real. It is essential to believe everything is possible and can be called into question, but it all boils down to nonexistent.

“I think therefore I am” is often used in most classes to get the students through the real meaning of the word. We can never be sure about any subject in our daily life routine. Even the obvious truths sometimes are doubtful. Should I eat in this restaurant or not, should I forgive my friend, etc. These doubts can be categorized into two sections the evil genius and the doubt. These two methods all reach a similar result: the certainty of the existence of subjectivity: thinking, therefore, means I am.

According to Descartes the methodical doubt voluntarily questions a person’s knowledge and opinion. Thus thinking if I may, is thinking of being. Doubt has questioned everything, reversing and becoming the source of certainty.

The evil genius an assumption of force cheating, making one pass for a true being, is misrepresented. But then again it might be wrong, when someone’s senses become a source of illusion, a fact remains that one can suspend their decision. Although a person may be wrong depending on their senses, blaming illusions. Thereby suspending one’s decision, suspending one’s decision is a thought that comes conclusively thereby proving its existence.
