A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings

Introduction

The Old man is the dynamic character in “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” story found by Pelayo in his courtyard, struggling to get out of the mud after the rainstorm drives the region and his wings are soaked by the mud (Marquez et al. 45). The man is a dynamic character in the story because he makes the events that are happening in the story. Pelayo called his wife, who was attending to their old baby who was falling sick. In this case, the Old man speaks a very foreign language, which Pelayo and Elisenda do not easily understand. They both try to talk to the man, but he replies in an accent which is not well understood. They call a neighbour woman who knows issues concerning the deaths and life as well as miraculous things happening (Marquez et al. 64). The neighbour woman says that the old man wanted the spirit of their wiped-out kid but was struck by the blizzard. The neighbour woman tells Pelayo and Elisenda to have the man clubbed to death. In this case, Pelayo and Elisenda lack the power to have this done, but they close the old man in their chicken coop (García Márquez & Gabriel 105-106).

The fact the man speaks a foreign language and has luxurious features such as wings brings many surprises to the people. Due to his wings, many people believe that he is an angel who has fallen. Catholic Church perspective thinks that the man is Norwegian since everything seems very obvious just around him. The old man appears to have the body of a human being but has wings that connect him fully to human nature. He has the human character of being diseased and filth (García Márquez & Gabriel 107). Once the people gather, he has human reactions to pleas and healing. The doctor’s inspection of his health finds that the unhealthy man is very alive, and they wonder how he survives. The old man exemplifies the central theme of the story, as per the title: an old man with enormous wings. The man is found to be the dynamic character and driver of the story through the story analysis, and after his disappearance, the story ends.

Conclusion

The fact that Pelayo and Elisenda do not club the character as per the words of the neighbour woman makes the story develop its course. The author could not allow the death of the Old man since he is the main character and the driver of the idea in the story. The old man embodies the primary theme of the story, according to the title: an old man with gigantic wings. The man is observed to be the dynamic character and driver of the story through the story examination, and after he vanishes, the story closes.
