Pope Francis stated that “God is not a magician with a magic wand.” Pope also endorsed the Big Bang theory and the theory of evolution in addition to biblical Scripture transcript. It is a milestone in the history of the Catholic Church, Science, and Religion. A broader theological perspective would tend to see scientific discovery along with a religious viewpoint. As opposed to antagonists, these two are a team working closely together for the common goal of finding out what is accurate and true. The Pope’s thought comes in the context of a broader effort to harmonize faith with empirical knowledge. In other words, understanding the universe’s mechanisms can contribute to an even richer experience of the world than it was monotonous.
Pope Francis’ acceptance of scientific theories that are well supported by evidence follows in the footsteps of his predecessors, who have tried to free the Catholic Church from long-way but historically anti-scientific positions. He not only does this, but it also goes along quite well with the cast. It reflects both a more modern picture of nature and a theological openness to understanding the ways in which God’s creation can be known by human science and reason. This direction can be most helpful when one is discussing the perceived conflict between science and religion. It largely stems from misunderstandings and misinterpretations, either of this realm or that.
To help bridge the gap between the church and the scientific community, one idea could be to have the church actively promote and participate in scientific research in accordance with ethical and moral guidelines. If the church backs research in areas such as environmental science, medicine, and cosmology, both could point to a commitment to learning about God’s world and addressing the significant troubles that overwhelmed humankind. A movement such as this may dispel the notion that faith is inherently opposed to science; it shows how constructive Christianity can be in fostering societal advancement. Pope Francis’s recognition of the Big Bang theory and evolution as being in harmony with religious beliefs is a step towards uniting the Catholic Church with modern science. To do so, the church must encourage science. To become a faith that develops in wisdom and that truly understands the wonders of the world.
