What are your thoughts on sex among the elderly? Does it make you feel uncomfortable thinking about it? Do you believe many elderly people are still sexually active? What are the age-specific risks of elderly people being sexually active?
As people age, numerous biological, physical, and psychological changes occur. Some of these changes may have an impact on the sexual life. A huge amount of data is available on sex among the elderly. Sex among the elderly is quite obvious; it is a natural phenomenon, and age does not matter in this regard. However, the ratio of sex between the elderly slightly reduces due to age factors and various body conditions.
To me, it does not feel uncomfortable while talking about it because age has nothing to do with the sexual life of a married couple; men and women can stay sexually active till their late 80’s. According to the research, several elderly people have confessed about their sex life that they often have sex with their partner. Many elderly people are sexually active and confess to having sex at least twice a week.
Many age-specific risks are involved in sex during elderly ages. First of all, if we talk about aged men who often used to have sex, a rise in the chances of heart problems may occur. A study found that older men who have sex at the age of 50 to 80 are more likely to have chances of heart attack, stroke, etc. To understand it more properly, men who have sex frequently at an older age are found to have suffered from heart conditions than those who don’t. On the other hand, if we talk about women, a study found that having sex at an older age has reduced the risk of high blood pressure. Instead, they have been found to have lower blood pressure when they found it highly enjoyable. However, elderly men may use medicines to maximize sexual function, which might damage the human heart. So these age-specific risks should b keep in mind.
