Four years ago, upon graduation from the Singapore American School and as a male in a country that requires every man to work as a national serviceman for two years, I applied and was enrolled on the Singapore Civil Service Force as a firefighter. During my two years as a serviceman, I performed in different ranks, as a commander and a sergeant, where I was required to apply unique leadership strategies to make sure that the individuals in my unit performed their tasks sufficiently and efficiently. It was during this period that we were faced with a laborious task that took us about two hours to accomplish, and that changed my life entirely. After saving the life of Mr. Ibrahim, a tanker driver, I realized that it was my calling to help others who are in need of urgent assistance and a lot of pain.
After I was discharged from the Singapore Civil Service Force two years ago, I knew my chances of enhancing my skills and abilities to be in a better position to help others lay with Chapman University. The institution has a desirable reputation for offering a quality program in Bachelor of Science in Health Science with small faculty and class sizes. The features are suitable for individuals with learning disabilities, including obtaining adequate education due to the enhanced student-faculty relationship. Thus, I have learnt a lot from Chapman, such that it would not be difficult for me to study and adapt to your institution, considering that I have been going through transfer preparatory training. I believe that I have what it requires to integrate into your institution.
I anticipate learning physical therapy, a profession I believe will put me in the best place to practice my passion. I am confident that your institution has the relevant facilities and resources, including professors, that will help me achieve my mission’s goals and objectives. Moreover, considering that a physical therapist deals with individuals with particular health conditions that require the creation of significant insights, competence, urgent responsiveness, and strategic planning, the profession fits my skills and talents. Reflecting on Mr Ibrahim’s incident, we were required to save a person who had been trapped in the front cabin, and as the unit’s commander, it was my duty to give orders and to provide the others with proper strategic plans to ensure there were no errors during the rescue mission. I was the leader and had to create proper insights to enable the team to conduct the task as competently as possible since the driver was enclosed in steel and rubbers that required extra care when moving them to avoid making the victim’s injuries worse than they were before we intervened to help. Furthermore, I was awarded three medals of excellence when working as a serviceman and have a diploma in emergency response. The skills and abilities I possess have been utilized before to save a man’s life successfully, and I believe that your institution offers me the chance that I require to make them useful in the future by helping patients in need of physical therapists.
Apart from the urge to improve my skills and abilities to enhance my performance in assisting other people, I have several other reasons why I want to transfer to your institution. During my two years at Chapman, I have had the prestige of making a lot of friends, but I have not been able to engage in some of my hobbies, including travelling and social and cultural exchanges. The current institution’s size does have the necessary resources and facilities where I can pursue these extra co-curricular activities. I am confident that your school has the relevant tools and space where I can sufficiently interact with other people to gain experience with their cultural interests. The broad knowledge and experience will also facilitate the quality of my performance as a physical therapist, ensuring that I offer the best to the patients who are forecasted to be vastly distributed across different nations influenced by the retirement of the baby boom generation soon. Another reason I prefer transferring to your school is that of its metropolitan location. An urban setting is a favourable learning condition, considering my dyslexia, since there is a vast distribution of knowledgeable individuals and professions that one can engage with for academic purposes. Moreover, I can get to pursue one of my hobbies, martial arts, which significantly boosts my mental strength and health, while learning at your institution by utilizing the resources within the school and others more advanced situated in the city that is within the surrounding.
Therefore, acceptance of my transfer application will be a significant achievement since I will be exposed to the right and proper conditions I require to fulfil my objectives and goals of helping others with my skills and abilities. It will be a step forward in creating a better future with the right people and ambitions.
