The Jim Crow Summary

The article African American Males and Incarceration seems to be different from what we have been used to seeing as a society. Therefore, using the article, the paper below aims to discuss how African Americans experience a disproportionately high insertion rate and how the argument of the author has relied on the concept of racism structure. The paper also reveals how the argument of the article is different from what society has gotten used to.

Alexander says that there has been an increment of single mothers who are blacks nursing their children as the black husbands are rotting in the jails. In the jails, the fathers contradict HIV, which, after their release, they bring to the African American society. According to her, this is like a form of trap for African Americans. She urges that the cause of the cause of these problems may not be because of incarceration. However, in her book, she says that it is the key factor of the net trap leading to many African American men and women having the struggle of life they are currently having today.

She also has an issue with incarceration as a way of having a system of social and racial control. Therefore, according to her argument, the whites are using mass incarceration to control the social status of the state and manifest racism indirectly. According to the writer, the more African Americans are kept longer in prisons, the more they are getting dragged socially and molested due to their skin colour. Having talked about this, the article by Alexander is viewed as unique. Unlike other articles which have been flooding the media, the case of Alexander’s was different, taking reality about prison and even to the extreme of speaking about President Richard Nixon’s invasion of drugs to African Americans openly.
