Strengths and Weaknesses of Research Study

Research method carried out to prove how food insecurity is related to dietary behavior has few weaknesses and strengths. The sample of the study was not systematically drawn. It does not contain randomized sample. In this we cannot generalize results for the entire population. The study comprised of volunteers to provide necessary information. They study didn’t have any proportion of individuals with unhealthy and healthy habits. Most of the individuals had food insecurity. This means most individuals didn’t have access to nutritious food. Thus results could be biased towards researcher judgment that food insecure individuals have unhealthy dietary behavior and habits. Data was collected on phone and it was self-administered thus increasing chances of biasness. FHQ measure does not involve quantitative measures to record fat intake thus validity of the research could be questioned.

The research uses regression to check the strength of each variable with one another. This makes it easy to interpret how food insecurity is related to different dietary behavior. However the research didn’t use correlation measure to check whether food insecurity variables are positively or negatively related to certain dietary behaviors. The research provides in-depth detail about how inadequate food intake among low income groups causes high fat consumption thus leading to unhealthy lifestyle (Mello, Gans, Risica, & Usree, 2010).
