Strangers at Our Door by Zigmunt Bauman
Migration and refugee issues have remained a burning question since humans learned to move from place to place for survival. In this context, immigrants all over the world have to suffer plenty of new problems who already have undergone violence, impacts of war, brutality, lack of necessities in most cases. One of the renowned sociologists of our times, Zygmunt Bauman, presents a concerned comprehensive analysis through his work “Strangers at Our Door”. In this precise masterpiece, he presents migration panic with concrete analysis.
Migrants are always treated as strangers in a new place by the respective inhabitants. Such a situation leads to arousing fear, panic, worries and hopelessness among the immigrant masses. According to him, immigrants are the disinherited ones who lose so much and spend lives under the blanket of poverty and misery. However, the political elite has exploited their worries and fears for their purpose around the globe. Such exploitation lasts unique imprints leading to a memorable crisis of humanity in multiple societal units worldwide. In this context, mutual separations and construction of walls lead to doom and failure of policies instead of a solution at last. Such implantations may embed a few short term reassurances, but in the long run, they will create chaotic circumstances for humanity.
However, the only way out is to accept and recognize the boundless interdependency of human beings as a species, living in one habitat at a specific site. So humans should find innovative and novel ways of living together as commonality under the shadows of cooperation and commensalism. In other words, the existence of humanity adorned with peace and prosperity lies in unity and harmony instead of separations and division, especially on a migration basis. He advocates the construction of bridges instead of building walls of separation. Hence, such strangeness can be alleviated in a society where immigrants face harsh and bitter problems.
