The findings from the questionnaire are consistent with what I thought about my skills. I am a person who is so passionate about leadership issues of inspiring and creating trust with individuals below and above my leadership person. The kind of work I do speaks for itself, which has allowed me to create trust with my superiors and my colleagues. My ability to meet deadlines and meet the quality standards has created some level of satisfaction by the management of my duties and responsibilities. My advocacy on open communication between all the parties has made it easy for the management to have an understanding of the kind of problems we encounter in the organization. It additionally makes it easy for various teams to express their needs to the management. I have established excellent working relationships with colleagues and my superiors. Good working relationships is an ingredient for success in any organization. I usually respond appropriately to enhance relationships between employees. Positive relationships have made it possible for colleagues and another person to defend me in cases of disputes or clarifications by management. I strongly believe that my leadership skills are behind my success as a leader. The result from the LMX 7 questionnaire is a true reflection of my leadership capabilities.
The questionnaire was important in highlighting some of the leadership areas that are crucial for a leader. A leader should possess important skills that creates a strong bond with the followers. The questionnaire is drafted to address key areas of leadership to builds trust, respect and obligation. The various questions were directed towards these three important traits of leadership. The fact that the questions are answered directly by an individual provides a self-assessment of the leadership skills. It is hard to be biased for such a survey, and the results provide a perfect reflection of the skill set possessed by an individual. The questionnaire additionally highlights the kind of skills that require being improved to enhance leadership effectiveness. This questionnaire has been instrumental in highlighting my leadership skills and the kind of improvement that should be done to improve my skills.
There are diverse resources that can be used to improve skills in this area. Mentoring is a resource that equips an apprentice to be a good leader. By working closely with an experienced mentor, one can gain vital skills through observation and direct communication with the mentor. Mentoring is an approach used to develop generational leaders in this era (Martinuzzi, 2017). The other resource is establishing trust from the advisors on key leadership issues. Advisors can play a role in guiding individuals to improve their leadership skills. The trust showcased by these advisors will go a long way to improve the skills of a person (Llopis, 2013). Learning from past leaders and present leaders are other resources that provide a platform to improve. Individuals need to read about successful leaders and hat they did to be successful. The same skills can be transferred to facilitate skill improvement (Northouse, 2018).
