She was under a lot of work the whole day. She used to get tired by doing each and every chore of the house. Her master and his misses were very cruel who would not let Varka take rest for a single while. They used to keep on harassing her. They even used to beat her. In the night, when everyone used to go to sleep, she was not even allowed to sleep at that time. She was forced to look after the baby in the night so that the baby should not make any noise and sleep. Varka was also afraid that if she will fall asleep, her master will beat her. She had been beaten many times for sleeping in the night. This caused her exhaustion. She was unable to think of her own. With her half opened eyes, she used to see her parents. She used to see her father dying and her mother pleading. She also used to see some mud and a constant screaming which she could not recognized. These nightmares were all because of the exhaustion she was facing in her real life. The exhaustion had gotten her into psychosis. The screaming she used to hear in her dream caused her to kill the baby as she was considering the baby as her enemy. After killing the baby, she was able to sleep. All the exhaustion became night mare for Varka. This caused her to become patient of psychosis and held her to commit a crime.
