Catalyst: Future Cities Reflective Journal

Podcast 1 – Catalyst: Future Cities

The article outlines how people would come up with life in our densely populated cities.  The author argues that it is amazing to contemplate that within the 1900s, only a tenth of the population of the world resided and worked in cities.  Presently, it the population of the people living in cities is more than half. The author claims are one of those people who live in the outer suburbs.  He says that he leaves his house in the morning when it is still dark so that he can catch up with the horrible morning rush.  These people commute and rush to catch up with time.  The author adds that much as some cities, such as Sidney, are believed to be one the best cities globally, the city still experiences quite [1]Unbearable in the morning hours.  The housing is expensive.  The implication is that one has to struggle to meet their deadline and arrive at their workplace on time.  According to the author, the city is fully occupied, and he is worried that the population is predicted to double in 50 years’ time. Amazingly, that has put our urban planners to think and project the future.

Much as the population increase will be good for the city, one would wonder where all these populace works and live well. Moreover, one would ask where these people would commute.  A section of the population would argue that the future cities will look attractive. However, the people’s lifestyle in future cities will be different in regards to the manner we would exchange information, meet, and work will be different.  For me as the student, I will have to plan my time well. I know it is challenging to commute and work in a city with a horrible traffic jam. I am sure some people find it difficult to survive in the cities. Nonetheless, I will have to plan my time and put in place all the necessary things that I will need to use.

The manager of MIT Media Lab’s Changing, Kent Larson is dedicated to developing technologies which solve contemporary concerns within the home, the office and the city[2]. Podcast 3 – Marc Kushner: Why the buildings of the future will be shaped by you

An architect and co-founder of Archaize, Marc Kushner, examines the reason this generation will shape the buildings in the future. Kushner claims that public views are now a foremost factor which determines how the future buildings will look and function.  He says that humans are living on the brink of the greatest revolution within the realm of the architectural world because the invention of concrete, elevators, as well as building steel have been invented.

Kushner outlines troubling statistic, which argues that American citizens spend about 90% of their time indoors. The implication is that this has affected architecture without anyone noticing it.  The author is exploring ideas on the power of design. He says that humans are always in the world of architectural design and surrounded by it.  Overall, Kushner tries to inspire the art of innovation and invention so that human beings can change the face of the cities that are projected to carry a huge population in the next 50 years. He believes that humans can find a solution now since there is the invention of steel and elevators that can make it easy for a building of houses that will accommodate the population that is projected to increase. I will strive to be innovative and inventive so that I may come up with an idea on how we can decongest our cities while creating more space for traffic flow.

Time Management

Mature students with full-time work commitments will be able to embrace time management.  In my view, one of the essential skills one should adopt is effective time management. It, therefore, means that if one effectively controls their time, then they can manage all their activities of the day without delay. This is effective, especially when commutes to cities with high traffic jams.  I am aware that managers would want their employees to arrive at the workplace on time so that they can accomplish their tasks. Achieving organizational goals can also be difficult when employees do not manage their time well.   I will always strive to manage time and plan for it.  I am aware that sometimes meeting deadlines is necessary, but when one is under pressure, they may not accomplish a good job with rushing deadlines; however, if employees manage their time well, then they will not feel any weight of backlog of work on their shoulders. I will always strive to avoid last minute rush that may not allow me to accomplish my assignments well. Overall, time management is a skill that people are expected to embrace.

Teamwork

Notably, mature students how have management embrace collaboration.  Teamwork or growing working is essential or employees or students. It helps in enhancing f learning skills. Through teamwork, everyone will be able to pull together in one direction. The implication is that with a unity of purpose created by teamwork, the group will be able to achieve their success and goals. It is essential for one to embrace group working skills since it is beneficial in bettering one another’s skills and talents.  The reason is that we are talented differently and have various ways of accomplishing the task. I will strive to embrace teamwork skills so that I may improve my job performance.  I will actively participate in the analysis and during the class discussion.  I am aware that my interaction and teamwork skills are not on par with the rest of the group. I will strive to improve my cooperation and teamwork skills.    Moreover, I will enhance my group participation.  This would be beneficial not only to me but also to the rest of my group members.

Overall, I realized that working group skills are essential in enhancing corporation and accomplishment of tasks. Also, I will remain committed to their duty and diligently serve the people as ethically demanded by my profession.   I will strive to embrace open and effective communication to enable them to provide quality service. I will also embrace effective communication with my colleagues so that together, we can provide quality military services. Through teamwork, I strive to influence the policy and uphold high ethical standards. I will carefully understand the code of ethics. What is more, I am aware of the legal and policy implications if they breach any of the good expectations as stipulated in the law. The main purpose and significance of outcome-focused methods for any organization involved in activities is to enhance service delivery. This helps them to reflect on and receive a vibrant understanding of the changes in their work.  It’s easy to list off the stereotypical characteristics we associate with veterans on the positive side [3]. I will strive to be honest, loyal, trainable, dependable, hard-working, team-oriented, good leader.

I will strive to practice strategic leadership that will enable me to develop a clear vision, knowledge, and insight into the formulation of appropriate organizational strategies capable of achieving competitive advantage in the organization. Furthermore, strategic leaders guarantee key capabilities necessary for sustaining competitive advantage in any organization.  Moreover, I will embrace key capabilities such as development and communication of the organization’s vision, investments and use of new technologies, engagement in strategy formulation and implementation, as well as development and use of effective human capital, which are critical in achieving competitive advantage.

In summary, time management and teamwork are essential for the growth of business and the development of the individual capacity to accomplish their task. I am aware that sustainable competitive advantage only arises when customers have a long-term preference for the products and services provided by an organization. In particular, leaders have a role in introducing elements and actions within the organizational approach as a guarantee for superior products and services. Strategic leaders engage in a cost-benefit analysis as a strategy for achieving a competitive advantage in the market.  Strategic leaders are commonly deemed the most important factor which promotes as well as maintains the competitive benefit for the firm, and the organization is required to comprehend the capabilities to realize the competitive benefit appropriately. The significant element of the sustainable competitive benefit of a firm is the type of leadership that the leader of an organization offers.
