Positive and Negative classroom experience
Every student in the education time come across situations which heavily impact the positive or negative thoughts in a student’s mind. It can be helpful if the environment is leading towards the growth of the child, and can become a disaster if it impacts a child in the classroom. From a personal perspective, some questions are to be answered in this context.
- Describe a positive and negative classroom experience you have had in your educational experience and the mindset of the teacher in both those situations. Did you feel that your teacher’s mindset in both situations impacted your own mindset in any way? How?
Personally, I have come across a situation in a classroom, where my teacher influenced my change of mindset. There was a time when my Maths teacher was hired as a substitute, and he was a social activist. He used to share how he managed to teach the poor children for free and that he was doing this for the past ten years. His mindset addressed that he has a belief of providing education to everyone and to improve the community in becoming something special. This mindset influenced me a lot, as the way my teacher was addressing, it felt inspirational to me. Another aspect, where my mindset was negatively opposed was when one of my teachers’ tried to shout out loud in the classroom to everyone who asked a question to him. It made me think that the teacher is not here to teach us, but only here to pass time and finish the day without giving any knowledge.
- How will you create your own positive and stimulating classroom learning environment?
The fear of being mocked or demotivated can be eliminated from students by applying stimulating experiences in the classroom. It can have different approaches, which can include practical activities to be given to students, giving students different questions to answer individually, and interacting creatively with the students.
Inappropriate behavior and bullying can be dealt with dealing directly with the bullying person, staying calm in the scenario, or telling the teacher or any adult to talk to the person. A safe and learning environment can be caused by treating children with care and rewarding them with prizes when they accomplish something in the class. Help from the whole school staff should be at hands of the students, to make them comfortable to talk to anyone in the school. Maintaining a healthy work environment where everyone is told to greet and welcome each other can help in effective learning.
