The process of helping in the development of a child is known as parenting. Child-rearing process helps in the physical, mental and social development of a child. Parents can adopt different ways of child-rearing. They can be lenient, strict or they can be both depending on the situation. Strict parents adopt harsh methods to discipline their children. They use authoritative methods to gain control over their kids. On the other hand, lenient parents are those who let their children grow in a soft atmosphere. There are some parents who adopt both the methods depending upon the situation. No one can tell which way is correct as all these ways are beneficial to the children in one way or another.
Each method of child rearing has many pros and cons. Children raised by strict parents are well disciplined and have a sense of responsibility, and they have clear goals and aims in life, But such children are often aggressive, dependent on others and inflexible. On the contrary children raised in friendly environment are free thinkers, they are independent and compassionate. I believe that parents should nurture their children in a lenient way. Children growing up in a lenient environment with friendly parents are better groomed. Such children can have fun every day. They can make new friends, they are allowed to hang out with them and they can live by themselves easily.
Lenient parents don’t feel the need to control their children all the time and such kids are free to do and explore new things frequently. Easy to go parents let their children play games with their friends and they also participate with them in different activities. Lenient parents hope their children enjoy “being a kid”. Such parents keep a balance between studies and recreation. They provide their children both environments for their better growth. This way of child-rearing helps the child in many ways. Children are able to learn many social skills. Such children are generous and kind towards others. They are able to adjust to new environment easily and have good teamwork skills. They have good communication skills and can become good leaders in the future.
Rearing children in the light environment also helps in building their personalities. Such children are confident and are able to do work on their own. They are quick learners and are able to learn new skills easily. They are creative and innovative. Such parents want their children to be independent hence they let their children make their own decisions and do things their own way. It is important to note that although lenient parents give their children the maximum freedom, but they do keep a check on them. Such parents trust their children, unlike strict parents, and are a constant source of guidance for them.
A child can easily communicate his difficulties with his parents as a strong bond of love and trust exists between them. It is not wrong to say that this parenting practice contains some drawbacks. There are many incidents where children get out of control when parents fail to keep a check on them. Sometimes too much freedom breaks the bond between the parents and their children. So it is necessary for the parents to keep a fine balance. I think rising a child in a lenient way is the most suitable way. All the parents should adopt this method as this helps in building the personality of the children and also makes the society a better place to live in. This can be hard for some parents but I feel that this is beneficial for both the parents and their children. This is the best way for me.
