Making Healthy Changes- A Reflective Journal
No one in this world has the blessing of a perfect and healthy lifestyle and people strive for it as their daily struggle. The health behavior change program is a great initiative for people who want to change their existing health-compromising behavior to help them lead their way to a healthier lifestyle. While I was thinking and planning to work on my health behaviour, I planned to do something sustainable and tangible and that was all about my habit of overeating. The health-compromising behavior I was accustomed to is overeating and because of that, I have gained enough weight steadily every day. Whenever I am home or in a restaurant, all I want to do is have enough meals in a row, and if restricted you will find me munching low a carb diet such as low-carb chocolate chip cookies, sugar-free sponge cake, low-carb pizza, low-carb egg rolls, etc. I have been recommended the low-carb diet because of my overweight to emphasize a higher proportion of fat and protein and to limit my carbohydrate intake.
However, this health change behavior is not proven beneficial for lowering high triglycerides in my body, and therefore I have decided to stop over-eating instead of having a low-carb diet. To combat the mindless overeating problem, the health-enhancing behavior I chose to modify was stopping the habit of overeating and consuming more water each day to control my weight because I know how risky it is to be overweight. One thing I have always struggled with is consuming an adequate amount of water because I mostly drink different types of juices. Studies have shown that a person who is having low carb diet in order to control body weight can suffer many health problems. Some of the harms I have realized of having a low-carb diet were headache, fatigue, low blood sugar, sluggishness, and constipation although it had helped me lose weight for a short period of time. On the other hand, stopping overeating, consuming an adequate amount of water, and having regular exercise made me fit, healthy, and nourished and also helped me with weight loss, increased brain activity, maintain body fluids balance, and most significantly kept myself hydrated. With respect to this health behavior change program, I saw a positive domino effect that overall has changed my health for the better.
