Leadership and power

It is important to know what power is how it is comparatively in a relationship with leadership. Term power is divided into two kinds known as formal and informal. The formal power is associated with the CEO and VP of an organization who usually responsible for managing working environments, conditions or rewarding and punishing employees. The informal power is associated with the leaders that are based on the ability to lead others. A leader leads people by creating loyalty and trust. It is at this moment, clear that power and leadership are interconnected terms, and both have its impact on each other. Leaders using power support, encourage and motivate employees to achieve the organizational goals effectively and efficiently. Leaders with the help of power inspire co-worker and employees by molding employees behavior to work in the profound way that results in the better productivity of the organization.

Moreover, the term leadership is connected to both kinds of power that is formal and informal power. Thus, the other name for informal power is the influential power it is because the role of leaders is influential and powerful in the organization that always influence and inspires employees to work effectively and efficiently. In addition to this, the frequent use of the formal power by the leaders is helpful to them in order to remove the roadblocks for employees. Furthermore, the role of influential power is critical to leadership success, due to this fact it is required to focus on the decision simply and concisely. Hence, some of the elements of the influential power are loyalty; it means that it is significantly important to keep loyal at every stage, trust; it is the main element of mutual understanding. So it is clear that power is related to leadership in order support, encourage, and motivate employees to achieve the organizational goals an efficient way.

In this heading the five sources of power have been discussed:

Legitimate power: it is otherwise called the positional power; it is gotten from the position hold by a man in the firm. This power is granted to according to the position in the organization

Expert power: is deprived of possessing skills, expertise, and knowledge in a specified area. It is communicated according to the skills, knowledge, and ability of persons

Referent Power is gotten from the relational abilities that are cultivated with different employees in a firm. It varies from employees to employees by the employee’s abilities

Coercive Power is derived from the ability of a person to influence others; it is mostly seen in the leaders who role is to inspire and influence others.

Reward Power is impacted by the motivation assignment. This type of power is very engaging and supportive.

In contrast influence and power together, is more likely to say a shared meaning instead of having a relationship. It means that the meaning of both terms is same and both are interconnected. The influence of a leader can be positive or negative. It is seen in a sense that might the employees assumes the meaning according to their perception which creates the positive or negative impact. Hence the amount of influence possesses by the leader is said to be quantified and qualified in the way of delivering benefits to the organization. The impact of influence is analyzed when leaders have a strong connection with employees, due to this fact emphasize of the leader is always on the team building, and team is working. Moreover, power is an authority that helps an individual to make it happen whatever s/he wants to perform or communicate in the organization. It is said that leadership is about influencing others and power is considered as a by-product of influence because leaders use powers to influence others in the premises of organization to achieve the organizational goal profoundly.

The relationships between leaders and staff affect influence and power in several ways such as leaders can influence employees to work effectively and efficiently with the help of team working and motivation. Leaders cultivate the controlling networking among the staff in the organization with the help of his power and influential role. The ability of power influences employee to work encouragingly in addition to this leader’s role in the organization is influential as they support, encourage, and motivates employees to perform duties more accurately and effectively.

By narrowing down the points I would like to conclude the presentation by summarizing the thoughts by stating that power is of two kinds; (i) Formal and (ii) informal; thus, both are important for the organization. It is related to leadership as it provides support to the leader to enhance the productivity of the organization by motivating employees and worker. The Five source of power is equally important for the organization to increase the level of productivity in the organization to meet the organizational goals. The influence and power are most likely to have a shared meaning, and it is the ability of a leader who used power in a profound manner to influence other people in the organization. The impact of influence is analyzed when leaders have a strong connection with employees, due to this fact emphasize of the leader is always on the team building, and the team is working.
