Immigration Essay

Immigration is a process of migrating from one country to another in pursuit of a better career, social commitments, climate change, and political stability or merely to improve the quality of life (“BBC – GCSE Bitesize,” 2014). However, the decision of immigrating to a different country is a bit complex procedure as it requires several protocols and conditions to be fulfilled before the completion of the entire process and these conditions vary state wise. The United States notably offers some visa categories specific for the immigration aspirants.

Visa categories mainly offered by the U.S. to the people who want to become permanent residents in the country because of their personal reasons, be it Job or family, are family-based immigration and employment-based immigration (“How the United States Immigration System Works,” 2014).In both of the mentioned scenarios, a person has to be sponsored by his close relatives living already in the U.S. or by an established employer working in the country. After the sponsorship, there is a hierarchy of steps that have to follow to become eligible for becoming a permanent resident in the U.S. these steps include, filling an application, submitting all the required documents: educational, former employment, tax returns and bank statements (“How the United States Immigration System Works,” 2014)

Also, the applicant has to go through a thorough a medical examination to eliminate the possibility of him being of the career of any contagious disease. Furthermore, he has to show the language proficiency of the region by appearing in a language test specified by the country. At last, he has to appear in an interview answering all the questions of immigration authorities and verification of all his application details (“How the United States Immigration System Works,” 2014).

Although, after being successful in getting the immigration and landing in the desired country the immigrant realizes that he yet has to face the actual challenge of living in a country, which is different from his country of birth in all aspects (Nunez, 2014). The most significant barrier that a person may face in a foreign land is of cultural and religious differences, and he may have to face social discrimination by his race, language or religion (Nunez, 2014). Furthermore, the excitement charm wears off when that person realizes that how much he misses his family and friends, and the life he had in his country free from all the hassle of adjusting in an entirely new world (Nunez, 2014). Even after coping with all the external pressures and getting accustomed to all social and cultural norms a person still finds it difficult to secure a job matching his qualification and gets by doing odd jobs (Nunez, 2014). After everything a person does to adapt to the life, he will always be considered as a guest living in a foreign land.

Well, immigration process severely hurts the economic balance of all those countries from where people are migrating as it serves as a talent drain from those countries. The only solution of this problem is that the nations bearing this loss by losing all their capable people moving out should start investing in their local talent and try to increase the prospects of career advancement for all the individuals. Moreover, these countries should provide new opportunities to their residents by introducing new health plans to improve the living standards and give as much relief to their citizens as possible to avoid the future migration of their people.
