The movie presents the viewers with an insight into the effects of past traumas on personality development. For example, the main character Walt Kowalski portrays such a man of modern society who is living in the past and cannot come to terms with the way society has urged him to a new shape. The overall characterization of the stated movie is very justified with respect to the movie’s overall plot.
Moreover, the plot of the movie is simple, concise, and comprehensive. The whole story revolves around the limited number of characters with diversified ideas, cultural representation, unique aspects of life, and multiple professional aspects, and more worthy is the sentiment of humanity among human beings. Meanwhile, the theme of the movie strikes the viewers’ minds towards the quality of friendship, helping the oppressed, and provoking positivity, etc. The main lesson of the movie is civic and societal manners and etiquette to lead a life with cooperation and collaboration. It shows how friendship can help invoke positive change in a person and the power of guidance to change a person’s future for the better. For example, in Walt’s case, it was his past struggles and the loss of his wife. Similarly, for Thao, it lacked proper direction, and for Sue, it was rape and exploitation. The movie depicts the power of kindness in transforming the thought process and leading to selfless decisions (Film Studies).
Furthermore, the movie is an excellent combination of inter as well as intra conflict of human life in society. The external conflict in the movie is the Gang and the violence caused by a group of distracted youngsters of society. These gangs have a dispute with other gangs, and they also try to pressure Thao into stealing Walt’s car. In contrast, Thao is unable to carry out the theft and confesses everything to his family. His mother and sister drag him to Walt’s house to apologize. The said inter conflict among different people in the society is the real stuff of the human civic culture. Meanwhile, the internal conflict that Walt struggles with is his past and all the innocent people he killed. He also regrets not being close to his sons due to his pride, and his time to make amends with them is running out as he is diagnosed with lung cancer (Hess).
Moreover, the movie is good regarding awareness tone among masses as it depicts the burning issue of modern life, i.e., racism and ethnic issues. The modern age is titled globalization, and the migration of humans is widespread and accessible worldwide. Instead of harmony and intermingling, this migration of humans created cultural, racial, and ethnic disparity issues. The issue is very beautifully highlighted in the movie, and it also probes the solution to this massive problem. For example, at the start of the movie, Walt is introduced as a grumpy old man. He does not trust anyone and is always wary of others. He spews racist remarks at his neighbors, whom he openly detests. Whenever faced with a conflict, he becomes violent and picks up his gun to resolve the issue one way or the other. Being lonesome and depressed, he is devoid of inner peace. But as the movie progresses, he transforms into a much happier person. He becomes sociable with his neighbors and forms a strong connection with the Hmong family. Towards the end of the movie, he sacrifices himself to protect the Hmong family (Ebert).
However, talking about the technical aspects of the said movie, it is an excellent piece at the presentation of the content. The audiovisual quality of the movie declares it the best collection in the vicinity of viewers. The resolution of the movie urges the viewer to maintain eye contact with full concentration. In this way, the message of the movie and the entertaining elements are preserved with great zeal. The structure of the movie, depicted locations in the scenes, the combination of multicultural scenarios, and the specified standard duration of the picture make it a fabulous piece for viewers.
