Galatians and Christianity

Galatians

“Galatians” is another name for the ninth book of the New Testament called “The Epistle to the Galatians”. The churches in Galatia were organized by Jews and Gentiles who still followed the Jewish Law and their point of view was that salvation is partly achieved by God’s Grace and partly by human intentions and efforts. Whereas in Paul the Apostle’s point of view, salvation can only be achieved by God’s grace and His grace alone. His grace has been liberated from all kinds of social and communal liabilities. Henceforth, the Judaizers raised their voice against the Gospel that was taught by Paul and questioned his apostleship to be mendacious and fabricated (Crowder, 2016). Paul the Apostle’s vindication in context to preserve his Gospel from the accusations of the Judaizers was the main reason he jotted down a letter to the early Christians of Galatia, a province of Turkey.

Significance of Galatians in Christianity

This letter focuses on the differentiation between the Law and the Grace for the people following Christianity as their belief. It establishes a firm concept that it is not a person’s own virtue that becomes the reason for his salvation, rather his belief in God alone can save him. It also addresses the topic of impartiality in Christianity that God does not judge a person on the basis of his color, race, or creed but it is his faith and faith alone that ensures his savageness. Whether it is a male or a female, a Black or a White, a Christian or a Jewish, everyone is welcomed with full freedom on the foundation of their faith alone. Galatians is one of the most comprehensible demonstrations of the Gospel in the entire Bible (The Global Message of Galatians | ESV.Org, n.d.). It emphasizes on equality and that God’s grace is for everyone irrespective of one’s actions and contributions. It is independent of any Law and jurisdiction and is simply gifted as a result of strong belief and faith in Christ.
