The design of the pesticides intends to kill and therefore it’s not specific on which species their action will be applicable. Apart from the pests, they often harm and kill other kinds including human being. Based on the research work of the World Health Organization, it has been illustrated that are more than three million cases that concerns pesticides poisoning every year and the deaths are 220000 in developing countries. The pesticide application is often not precise, and therefore the untargeted exposure to it occurs to the other organisms in the places where they were applied. Children and other young developing organisms are mainly vulnerable to the effects of pesticides. A small exposure while developing may lead to adverse effects of health.
The image that has been used to illustrate the effects of pesticides on human beings is a warning image. The image contains “the UNSEEN VICTIMS of PESTICIDE POISONING” information which implies that the developing young of the species especially children are not being considered at the moment of pesticide application and this ends up killing many of them. The background of the image has a spraying machine on a plantation with a child looking at the spraying machine from a small distance. The creator of the image placed a warning figure of bones in it to illustrate the effects that may befall an exposed human being and in this case a child. Therefore, in this paper, we are going to illustrate the effects of pesticides on the lives of human beings. The paper will pass its argument specifically on the effects that a child is facing.
The effects of pesticides can range from neurological health effects like the loss of memory, coordination loss, a reduction of the speed of stimuli response, a reduction of visual ability, uncontrollable or even altered mood and general behavior, and also reduced motor skills. These kinds of symptoms are mainly subtle and thus they could not be easily recognized by the community of medication as the clinical effects. The other possible effect that relates to health includes allergies, asthma, and also hypersensitivity. It has been illustrated that exposure to pesticides could lead to hormone disruption, the development of cancer, and also problems relating to the reproduction and development of the fetus.
Pesticides have both active and inert ingredients. The active ingredient is used to kill the pests while the inert ingredients are essential in helping the active ingredients work properly. The inert ingredient does not test thoroughly like the active ingredient, and thus they are seldom placed on the label of the product. The solvents which are considered to be inert in many pesticides are very toxic if they are inhaled or even absorbed by the skin. The children possess a higher risk of exposure to the pesticide since they have small size; they drink, eat and also breathe more as compared to adults. The body organs of children are growing fast and thus make them very susceptible. More so the children may be able to be exposed to pesticides even when they are in their mother’s womb.
From the paper, it’s really that human beings especially children are at a higher risk of being affected by pesticides. The effects may range from memory loss, reduced response to the stimuli altered mood and behavior, reduced visibility, and poor motor skills. Humans can also be developing cancer, reproduction problem, and also hormone disruption. Therefore it can be concluded that children are more susceptible due to their small body size and they eat, breath,e and drink more than adults. In fact, they can get affected while in the womb.
