Liberalism and conservatism are modern political ideologies. Conservatives are those who believe in traditional or old values. They are usually assumed they be rigid and resist change. Liberals are open-minded people who believe in openness and willingness to accept or respect others’ behavior and are open and have new ideas. Conservative and liberal are two opposite forces that they cannot be together. They have opposing views on different goals. They have different political, social and economic views.
The political views of “conservatives are that they are anti-federalists and prefer small government and less regulation. The services should be mostly provided by the private sector in a free market and a literal interpretation of the constitution. While the liberals are federalists, they prefer more regulation and services such as free universal health care should be provided by the government to all citizens equally.” “On the economic issue, conservatives say that government should charge less tax and cut the spending to balance the budget and the higher income earners should have an incentive whereas liberals think that government should provide more services to the less fortunate and increase taxes if it is necessary and the higher earners should pay more taxes. They are divided on social issues as well. Conservatives are not in favor of gay marriage, abortion and embryonic stem cell research while liberals fight for the rights of gay marriage, and according to them, abortion should be legal and support embryonic stem cell research.”
It is stated that “no one who has a heart can resist being a liberal and that no one who has a brain can avoid being conservative” (Riley, Jim L.). “These two political ideologies provide government, thoughtful citizens, policymakers and others a set of principles and guidelines on issues like political, social and economic.”
