Chant is a small, simple melody distinguished with the help of certain criteria defined by the musicians. Usually the musicians determine them using the single notes. Also the numbers of syllables are infinite. Church services are usually conducted in the form of chants. In English church, chants are the melodies set to the arrhythmic versus of the psalms and canticles. Chants are directly proportional to the number of verses, i.e. there is a single chant for on verse and double for two. The most common chant is a Gregorian chant which takes its name from Pop St. Gregory the Great. Many traditions claim that he is the composer of chant. The local chant tradition was replaced with the one used in Rome. Effectively, no musical typescripts were being scripted in Italy. So Roman Popes imported Gregorian chants from Germany during the 10th and 11th centuries. An aim of its refined, gipsy tune can be heard in the Eastern hymn.
Chant is very important to the history of music because it brings the dedicated to worldly. Opposite to the hip-hop, rock and heavy metal chant are a gentle ointment to the tired souls. Moreover, it slows our racing minds and releases us from the stress of this world. Chant has a great influence on 20th and 21st century. Chant is useful since the production of beta waves in brain caused by them. Chant music is still used in many music albums today as noticed in compositions of Maurice Duruflé. The chant was also used in the main theme of console game ‘HALO’. Today changes are performed by a solo cantor.
