Change Management in Projects

Part 1

There are many important considerations that are needed to be taken care off when one talks about the identification of the time, cost and the overall quality impact that all the factors are going to have over the long term viability of the project. The core thing that is needed to be taken care off is to make sure that the relevant matrices are needed to be developed that would provide some important insight regarding the future direction of the project as well as making sure that all the scope related documents pertaining to the project are being managed in an appropriate manner (Harrison & Lock, 2017). Keeping in mind the nature of this project, the adoption Metrics are going to be an important component of the project. At the same time, the usage and the compliance along with the adherence report are also some of the things that allow greater viability of the project to be taken care off. The Glasgow tower was also unique in a sense that it was one of the few projects where one gets to see considerable changes with the passage of time. And when that happens, It is also a good idea to make sure that the proofing and the designing document is also prepared to make sure that the last term lapses in terms of cost and timeline can be managed (Harrison & Lock, 2017). The other aspect that has to be kept in mind is that the management of the issues, compliance and the error log would go a long way towards making sure that the integrity of the information that was recorded during the project would be unquestionable (Harrison & Lock, 2017).

Part 2

The key thing that is needed to be noted with regards to this project is that at times, if there are minor changes, and provided they are not chancing the cost and the scope of the project to a great extent are always going to be there (Ptak & Schragenheim, 2016). So the project managers that are working on the project have to be prepared for such a scenario, the problem starts to happen when the associated risks that one gets to see during the course of the changes are not documented in the right manner or they are causing lapses in the timeline of the project (Harrison & Lock, 2017). What worked well for Glasgow tower that allowed the project to turn into a major success was the fact that how in the long run the project’s initial objectives and timelines were not tinkered with (Rosemann & Brocke, 2015). When that happens, the risk mitigation always carries out itself due to the fact that the associated risks that are linked with the project are going to be lower in this case due to which the margin of error is on the lower side. Coming towards the options, one of the options is to make sure that the change management document or plan is provided to the stakeholders (Harrison & Lock, 2017). That allows the explanation of the lapse in timelines or any delay that one would be getting to see during the course of the project is also going to be taken care off at an appropriate level (Harrison & Lock, 2017).

Part 3

The other main document that comes handy when the large scale projects are executed is that of the change management document (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). The drafting of the change management document is needed to be carried out in an appropriate manner to make sure that if there are any last minute changes, they are not going to have an adverse impact over the timelines and the overall management of the project (McNeil et al. 2015). To have an idea regarding how the change management form is being filled, here is one of the examples from the workplace that is going to provide insight regarding how the management document is drafted and taken care off (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017).

Part 4

Scope creep is one of the major issues that one gets to see during the course of the project, it is also known as the requirement creep or the kitchen creep during the implementation of the project (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). What is meant by the issues creep is that how the continuous or uncontrolled growth in the project is going to be carried out. Most of the times, the scope creep refers to the changes that are happening after the initiation of the project. If one talks about the major construction project such as the Glasgow Tower, the key thing that worked to its advantage was that the level of communication and the discussion among all the stakeholders was ideal (Martinelli & Milosevic, 2016). Due to that, the entire requirement pertaining to the project was communicated beforehand (Martinelli & Milosevic, 2016). One of the key example of the scope creep might be an instance when the change in the requirement is asked for at the last moment and it does not take into account the fact that this change would mean that the cost of the project as well as the relevant timelines that are related to the project are being taken care off in an appropriate manner (Martinelli & Milosevic, 2016). The key thing that is needed to be kept in mind is that how if calling any minor change a scope creep is not appropriate and only the changes that have major repercussions are needed to be taken into account (Martinelli & Milosevic, 2016).
