Raul’s Case Scenario

First, I will advise Raul to venture into part time teaching of students doing their research. This is because he will be bored if he will take full time hours teaching students who are doing their research. This is based on the fact that teaching is not her passion. Even though Raul does not enjoy teaching, he will there is likelihood that he might develop a passion for teaching if at all he will teach part time for a long duration. Research shows that human beings become adapted to activities that they do continuously. As per this research, individuals who engage in activities that they don’t like change their attitude in the long term (Daniel, 2014).

The second advice that I will give Raul will be that he should continue researching more about counseling without writing any papers. Simply put, I will advise Raul to replace the research that requires him to write papers with that which does not require him to do so. This will be a form of self education that will be focused on improving his career skills. All he will need when doing his self study is take notes that touch important points regarding important skills. To learn many skills, I will advise him to read latest research articles. This is because discoveries are made on a daily basis and so it is important to be updated (Philip, 2013).

The last advice that I will give Raul will be that consider changing his attitude with regards to doing research, writing papers and also teaching. There could be likelihood that his attitude is holding him from pursuing his passion. As per this particular case, research could be his passion. I will point out to him that all people meet challenges when pursuing their passion. I will explain to him that he should consider ignoring the main challenge which is writing papers and focus of his main interest which is research. I will advise him to consider hiring someone to do the writing part (Daniel, 2014).

John Case Scenario

Some of the graduate options available to John include Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology or a Master Degree in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. The other option available to John is a doctoral degree in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. When taking a bachelors degree program, John will be required to go for attachment in a renowned business organization. The reason why I am being specific that he needs to go to a renowned organization is because small business organization will offer less experience. What this means is that doing a practicum attachment in a small organization will lead to learning of few skills (Philip, 2013).

Graduate programs in I/O psychology are currently very competitive. One of the reasons for the high competition is that there are several employment opportunities awaiting graduates that undertook this particular program. Given the fact that unemployment is one of the major challenges facing the world today, every student is trying to pursue a degree program that will place him or her in a better place with regards to employment. To put it in another way, many individuals are increasingly taking this program so that they can increase their chances of getting employed faster (Daniel, 2014).

In order to be competitive enough to be accepted into a graduate program, John should have a high GPA. What normally happens is that students with high GPAs are given the first priority and those with lower GPAs are given the second priority. What this means is that if John will have a lower GPA, he will be disadvantaged with regards to being accepted to take this particular program. The only guarantee circumstance for John to be accepted to do his desired undergraduate program will be to have a higher GPA. It should be one that is far much high above the stipulated cut off (Philip, 2013).
