Ravallion, M. (2008). Global poverty and Inequality: A Review of the Evidence. World Bank Publications.

Ravallion (2008), reviews the evidence regarding levels and trends of global poverty and income inequality, by studying the data collected from 130 countries over 25 years. The study shows the negative correlation between global poverty and income inequality, further emphasizing that income inequality leads to consumption inequality which can lead to resource scarcity. The author then presented some solutions that would aid economic growth; reduce global poverty and income inequality.

The author is a credible source as he is a member of Poverty Team, Development Research Group at World Bank, and this source was published in Oxford Handbook on Economic Inequality as one of its chapters by Oxford University Press in 2009.

Amorós, J. E., Ramírez, L. M., Rodríguez-Aceves, L., & Ruiz, L. E. (2021). Revisiting poverty and entrepreneurship in developing countries. Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, 26(02), 2150008. https://doi.org/10.1142/S1084946721500084

The authors (Amorós et al., 2021), explained the advantages of entrepreneurship and its relation to a decrease in poverty in developing countries. Working as a self-employed person can not only help a person to grow out of poverty but also help in the economic growth of the country by creating more job opportunities for the people. This initiative to work beyond the constraints of traditional industries has helped many unemployed members of society to become contributing members of it. Data was studied from Global Entrepreneurship Monitor data and the UN-UNDP, Human Development Index from 2010–2019, and it was deduced that the countries in which need-based entrepreneurship emerged, those countries’ economic situation moved in a better direction.

The article was sourced from the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship Vol. 26 published by World Scientific, a leading academic and professional publishing company, making the authors of this article credible.

Anand, S., & Segal, P. (2008). What Do We Know about Global Income Inequality? Journal of Economic Literature, 46(1), 57–94. https://doi.org/10.1257/jel.46.1.57

The authors (Anand & Segal, 2008) argued that while there is a lot of data that showed the co-relation of global poverty and income inequality, it is still not enough as there are various sources that cause uncertainty, the gap in estimates, and underlying errors in data collected. These shortcomings in the collection of evidence and data cause a delay in the implementation of proper steps and procedures to overcome global poverty. This issue was discussed methodically using various survey results to prove the discrepancies and fallacies in data. It was stated that as long as these fallacies remain, it cannot be determined with certainty if we are moving in the right direction in regards to global poverty and income inequality.

The authors are credible as this source has been cited in many articles including Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship Vol. 26 published by World Scientific in their article “Making a Dent in poverty”.

The authors (Ferreira & Ravallion, 2011) explain that nearly 700 million people live in poverty with 80 percent of the poor living in developing countries. To make their financial situation better many people have been migrating to other countries so that they can provide a better future for themselves and their families but this still does not mean that the poverty levels are decreasing. The data presented in the article shows that the increase in minimum wage does little to help in decreasing global poverty as with an increase in minimum wage there is also an increase in inflation. To decrease global poverty effectively it will be beneficial if inflation is reduced as it will make a difference in the cost of living.

The authors work for the World Bank in the Poverty Team, Development Research Group, this gives them access to the data required for research, and the authors’ works have also been published in Oxford Handbook on Economic Inequality.

Hoy, C., & Sumner, A. (2016). Global Poverty and Inequality: Is There New Capacity for Redistribution in Developing Countries? Journal of Globalization and Development, 7(1), 117–157. https://doi.org/10.1515/jgd-2016-0021

In this article, the authors (Hoy & Sumner, 2016) illuminate the readers by informing them that in famine-stricken countries, people die not because of lack of food but due to lack of entitlement to that food. It is unfortunate that people with money stacked up on food resources leaving non for the poor. Food scarcity has been one of the main problems in global poverty and inequality, it is high time that laws and policies are made for equal distribution of resources so that the poor people do not have to die out due to the greed of the rich people. Entitlement and privilege of rich people have always caused unnecessary problems in way of solving global crises and their selfishness has caused many their lives.

The authors are credible as their article has been cited 12 times in different articles which is 75 percent higher than the articles written on the same topic and field of study.
